"Nicely surprised
I was worried this would be too much for my wiggly third grader and would never hold his attention. We do it mainly as a read aloud with the time line activity. Occasionally, we use something suggested in the teacher's manual. My grandson loves the sketching assignments. I was surprised to find that this is now his favorite subject! He loves it and adding videos about the various historical figures, events, etc. has helped his overall grasp of the material. I am so surprised at how much he has retained and at his enthusiasm. I have learned a lot myself and love this curriculum that makes American history come alive."

When asked what he thought I should tell others about his history book, my son said: It's a five out of five, no wait, it's a 200 out of 200.
This book covered from the Early Native Americans to the time leading up to the Civil War. The facts are clever enough to capture an eight year old's attention and not make the subject drag along while covering all the important moments in America's history. The dark times in America's past (Slavery and The Trail of Tears) are covered in a way that doesn't ignore the tragedy and gloss over it; however, it allows us to admire the greatness of the Americans who fought against the injustices. It focuses on the men, women and stories that have made America a great country.
The set has a lot of reading and writing. I allowed my son to do a lot of the writing as oral presentations since he doesn't like writing. The way the lessons are set up make it easy."

"Get the audiobook!
First off, we love this history; but even more so, I love being able to step back and use the audiobook when we are driving to activities or when I have work to do and we still need to get our lessons done. Definitely get the audiobook if you're a busy family that needs to have something taken off your plate. "

"Great foundation to US History.
This was a fantastic foundation for our young son (3rd grade) to learn how our nation began. He loved the short stories about famous people in our history and how God was part of history. The teacher guide had great worksheets for students. We didn't use the timeline for our youngest son but used all the other activity pages. He loved the mix of drawing, fill-in-the-blank, writing, and puzzles to apply what he had learned. Great book!"

My family loved America's Story vol. 1. I looked long and hard for an American history that my children would love and I hit the jackpot with this series. The way the author, Angela, writes the text, it is so engaging, so personable, it feels like you are having a conversation with her and are just drawn into the story wanting to hear more. History, because of this curriculum, has one of our favorite subjects this year hands down and we can't wait to begin vol. 2 next year."
