Master's Class High School Biology Set brings the wonder of biblical creation and science together for homeschool students. This homeschool curriculum with labs begins with a review of chemical principles needed for biology, including the biology of water, and concludes with human origins.

This course provides important training and practice in developing skills involved in the study of biology, including observing and recognizing interactions and interdependencies of organisms in their natural environment, the use of a light microscope, dissection skills, and insights and recent advances in modern biology.

Through this study of biology, your high school student will learn how we are created in God’s image with an eternal destiny rather than being the sum product of natural laws acting upon atoms and molecules. This course reveals the variations in humans today had their roots in the DNA of two humans (Adam and Eve) and give glory to God for this wonder of life.

Course Objectives:

  • Investigate the core concepts of classical and modern biology
  • Become familiar with the meaning of key terms in biology
  • Explore the fundamental concepts of cell biology and important recent developments
  • Study the development of classical genetics and modern concepts in the expression of DNA and how it varies with age and changing environmental conditions
  • Learn the coordination and maintenance of the parts of an organism
  • Study the variety of life forms and how their roles are integrated in an ecosystem
  • Explore varied views of the origin of life and how the biblical narrative is consistent with what is observed in the study of biology
  • Conduct laboratory procedures that develop important skills and illustrate important concepts
  • Write lab reports each week to further develop writing skills in a scientific context

Biblical worldview Biology
Review by Barbara D
This course was well written to start with the very basics of the chemistry of a cell and them builds from there to DNA and all the parts of life. I was glad to see it constantly honoring God for His design for life and not how we evolved from cells over millions of years. We are created with care and purpose.
I also want to add that our homeschool co-op used this course this year and really liked it. They did the labs as a group.
The student book has all the information and the Teacher Guide has all the worksheets, test, and exams as well as suggested schedule and answer keys. The worksheets were a lot about finding specific answers whereas the lab sheets were very open like a journal. (There is an example and instructions on how to do lab notes in the T.G.)
A very open and go book that helps the student learn not only Biology, but how to start taking on their own education. They are not dependent on their teacher for this course.
Great set
Review by Andi
Biology set is well set up, introduces and covers many topics such as genetics, plants, DNA, energy and ecosystems. There are labs and hands on activities, laboratory reports and a great introduction on using a microscope. The teacher guide has everything needed to complete the class, labs, weekly lesson pages, answer keys, quizzes. I felt like it had an appropriate amount of work for a 9th grade student, the reading was not overly intense and was written well. As always with Master books everything refers back to God. Overall a great biology course.
In-depth biology course without all the busy work
Review by Santina
Master’s Class Biology is engaging and challenging. If your child has used the God’s Design Chemistry in the past, they will be ready to dive into the first chapter which is all about chemical principle in biology. The academy videos are an excellent supplement and make the course very clear. I do recommend having your child complete a middle school level chemistry course before moving into biology. Overall, this is an in-depth high school level biology course without all the burnout of busy work.
Comprehensive Biology Course
Review by Mama Thomas
I was surprised at just how in depth this course went! The labs were very thorough. I recommend getting the lab kit because you will definitely use it. I appreciated that the lessons didn't drone on and on and the worksheets, quizzes, and exams weren’t straightforward and didn’t include a bunch of busy work.
Great
Review by Samantha
This set is great! I loved how there was so many colorful pictures and such a strong Biblical worldview through out. The teachers guide it’s laid out well and easy to use with a daily schedule and answer keys, which is very helpful!
Really Good Curriculum
Review by Candice
I am a Biomedical Engineer. My son completed the Apologia Biology a few years ago, so as I went through this curriculum I tried to recall it to compare. I love the beautiful illustrations in this curriculum. I really love all the biochemistry tie-in right from the beginning and the genetics studies towards the end. Starting with the basic building blocks of life makes so much sense and it IS chemistry, so it's a great intro to chemistry that ties into biology. The genetics/DNA chapters are plentiful and interesting. The text has all of your basic single-celled organisms to complex forms of life, plant life, respiration, photosynthesis, and typical things you would find in a Biology textbook. Apologia may go a bit broader and more dense, but Masterbooks covers plenty and will prepare a student for college level Biology. I do understand some other reviewer's comments about organization. It could be better, but we followed it fine.
The curriculum may be criticized for its less easily accessible lab supplies, but as I went through the labs, I found them really cool and fascinating. The Apologia labs were very accessible and practical. They may have been more easily understood by the average student, but I truly love the Masterbooks labs. I love the microscope section that really digs in and I love the fact that they get to do several experiments with use of the microscope. I do not recall my son ever doing anything with a microscope for Apologia. And, maybe that is totally fine because you can see images of everything, but there is just something about actually using a microscope that makes me excited! I am really impressed!
Teacher Guides may be something you don't necessarily need AS MUCH with some curricula, but this is not one of them! It is open-and-go: all planned out with additional resources. Many say the Teacher Guides can almost be used as workbooks and I whole-heartedly agree. You would be doing your student and yourself a disservice not purchasing both! Excellent!
Good course
Review by Jaime
Although biology isn’t my freshman daughter’s favorite course, I think it is so well written and encourages critical thinking in how the worksheets are written. She truly has done so well and it is so great to see. I definitely recommend the academy course to go with it!
Love this cirriculum
Review by Mk
We switched to Masterbooks cirriculum for science three years ago. This is our first year of high school and biology did not disappoint! This year we added the Masterbooks Academy videos that are offered separately with this course. My daughter was able to complete the textbook lessons and videos independently and I guided her through the weekly hands on lab. We both really enjoyed this cirriculum and are looking forward to the next two in the Master's class series for high school.
Not well organized
Review by Sarah
I borrowed this from a friend, and it wasn't well organized. Major concepts would be thrown is as an after-thought because they were needed to explain another concept. If it was better organized, then the concepts could each be well explain as a "precept up precept" system. This just jumped around and wasn't systematic enough.
Good overall
Review by Ana
This is a good overview of Biology. There have been a few times that my student needed help understanding some concepts, but we got through it together. The course points to Jesus as Creator, and that's a big win for us. The online videos from the Master Books Academy are helpful.
