Homeschool Families Enjoy Family-Style Learning with Elementary Zoology

Carissa, homeschool mom of 5 children, joined me on the podcast to discuss one of her favorite “family-style” homeschool curriculum from Master Books: Elementary Zoology. As an adult, Carissa left a very influential cult to become a Christian. Her passion for raising her children under the authority of God’s Word and teaching a #ProBible science is so strong and so contagious. I am so excited to share some of her quotes and details about how the course worked for her family with you in the following paragraphs!

Teaching #ProBible Science to Your Family

“For me, the worldview is crazy important. This is part of why we are in the Master Books family and always choose Master Books courses … I know it will always have a creationist perspective.”

“As our kids get older, science can become a wedge in terms of their faith if we don’t present them with the right resources. I don’t ever want my children to think their biblical faith is at odds with science because in fact it is not.”

“We see evidence of intelligent design all around us. I think it is important that we show our children there is evidence for what we believe. There are PhDs and many smart people who believe that too.”

Why Elementary Zoology is a Great Course for Your Family

This biblically based homeschool science course is as exciting as a trip to the zoo and the aquarium. Elementary Zoology brings God’s big world of animals and sea creatures to life for 4th – 6th grade students. From the smallest to the largest of animals, students will learn what makes them unique and celebrate their place in the world God created. The biblical and scientific wisdom throughout will help your family combat the evolutionary theory most zoo experiences present as truth.

Lessons for this one-year #ProBible science course are scheduled five days a week and can be completed in approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

How to Adapt Elementary Zoology for the Family

While Elementary Zoology is designed for students ages nine through eleven, it can easily be adapted to fit the needs of your family. Carissa directed her older two students to use the course as suggested in the Teacher Guide. She read the lessons to all her students and chose worksheets that her younger students were developmentally able to complete.

I asked Carissa during our interview how she would rate this course among all the family style courses she has used at Master Books. She told me she consistently uses our history and science courses for family learning, and she gave Elementary Zoology a 10 out of 10.  She shared: “The books are amazing. There are a lot of hands-on activities that are low-mess and achievable. The academy course really helped me out.”

Carissa and her family welcomed a new baby during their study of Zoology. She was able to continue reading the course to her students and have them watch the videos while she took care of the new baby. She commented that the Master Books Academy Zoology instructor, Brian Young, did a great job of making it engaging for even the younger kids.

Books included in the Elementary Zoology Curriculum Pack

There are five books and a teacher guide included in this course. Carissa walked us through several of them in the podcast offering important and fun details about them. I loved learning that she and her family are still using God’s Amazing Creatures and Me as a family devotional. Have you seen this book? I love it so much!

The following books are used throughout the course. You can look inside the Teacher Guide here to see how the course is scheduled.

I recommend reading through the reviews of this course by other Moms of Master Books to get an idea of how it has worked for other families who use the course for children of various ages. Let us know in the comments if you and your family have enjoyed learning together using this course.
