It has been said that our planet is really just an insignificant speck in a vast universe, but that's not true! In fact, the conditions for life found on earth are supremely unique and make our life here comfortable. This despite the reality that the world around us is also tainted and in need of careful calibration in order to continue.

Love this science book!
Review by Melissa
My kids have not even seen this book yet. I'm actually the one reading it right now! :) It is very interesting and well-written. I am learning a lot, and I am 36! I do wish it had color pictures though.
Our Favorite of the Series
Review by Michelle
We love all of the Tiner books, but this one is definitely our family's favorite. So much information presented in such an interesting and engaging way!
Great resource
Review by Jj23
We are currently just using this as an informative resource because my eldest is only 7 but I love that it is written in a way that younger children who live science are still interested and engaged when it is read to them.
So Interesting to Read!!

The books from this series are so fascinating! Kids love them and adults too! Love to leave them around the house and kids pick them up and enjoy learning without knowing it!!!
Exploring The World Around Us In The Evening
Review by Heidi
My 7 year old son and I Iove to read this book at night! We find it very informative and enjoy it very much! If he has any questions, it is easy to answer them to his satisfaction. Since he is so young, I only plant the seed of discussion on the topics with him. He has such a wide variety of interests that I only read two chapters a night. I was so grateful to find this as one of the Flash Sale deals! I purchase several that I can introduce to him now and use as curriculum later! He loves to learn this way! We love Master Books!

A real living book: well written
Review by JH
This is sort of a textbook style with unit chapters followed by question sheets, but it is written in a conversational style, making it an easier read even if it is dense with information. It is comprehensive, covering topics including Creation, biomes, energy, natural cycles, biotic relationships, and anthropological environmental impact. Perhaps it is better suited to middle school or high school age children, but I think my 8yo science buff would definitely get something out of it. The pictures are manifold, although they are in black and white, they range from diagrams, to photographs, to really lovely sketches. This book will dove-tail well as a supplementary resource for many courses of science study, but could well be used on its own.
DIY Environmental Studies Course
Review by Kelley
I am using this book along with The Ecology Book and two Trail Life badges to create an Ecology/Environmental Studies course for my fourteen-year-old son. I am loving the flexibility of Master Books!
My kids love it!
Review by Ellie
This is currently my kids favorite in the “exploring” series. I own 4 of them currently and this is the one they teach for the most. This book covers ecosystems, energy, pollution , food. So much great info and with a godly approach you can’t ask for more than that!
Great resource for older students
Review by Amy
I would not read this book to my 9 year old. Unlike some of the other Exploring series it doesn’t read great to a younger crowd, unlike my favorite, Exploring the History of Medicine. It is however an exceedingly well researched and written book. Give this and the Wonders of Creation Ecology book to your high schooler and let them go nuts. There are questions at the end of each chapter and answers at the end, along with a dictionary of some of the words that are less familiar. I really got this book for me, hoping to have my kids read it someday. Till then, I’m going to enjoy stretching my mind.
