10/10 very awesome
Review byJen R
The stories in this book flow well and tell very interesting stories of the great statesmen of this country. My very active 12 yo son loved listening to this audiobook and listened to it all in one day! He loves reading so for him to sit and listen to this book was amazing. He said everytime he wanted to turn it off for a bit an interesting fact or action point would occur to draw him back in. He was able to tell me all about the people he learned about, what they did and how they were inspired by God. Wonderful book and we can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Brings American history to life!
Review byKathleen C
I love this series. It is a fantastic way to teach children history through the lens of character and faith. Marilyn Boyer writes in a way that shows her passion for history and a moral education.
This book focuses on the lives and moral character of influential American leaders, aiming not just to inform, but to inspire.
The author profiles several notable American statesmen—including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and others—highlighting their personal virtues, patriotism, and contributions to the founding and shaping of the United States. Each chapter is structured around biographical storytelling, moral lessons, and historical context, often supported by Scripture and discussion questions.
The book emphasizes traits such as integrity, courage, and faith, making history more personal to young readers. I appreciated the way she integrated biblical principles throughout the stories, reinforcing moral values alongside historical education.
This format has review questions that lead to great discussions. This is great for a read-aloud for children of different ages.

The Power of Words
Review byCharity
When I first heard the title Famous American Statesmen and saw a few of the names listed, I wondered if it would be redundant since several of the men are also featured in the other volumes of this series. I was wrong!
I love how these men are grouped together so that you can see the similarities and differences in the life events that influenced their career as a statesman. The story of Henry Clay, and a few others, were new to me and gave me a fresh appreciation for the sacrifices the American people had to endure on the path to independence. Each of these men's passionate messages have shaped our country and it's history as we know it.
My first experience with the series was just listening to the audiobooks, which we still enjoy, but having the physical copy adds more depth with the vocabulary words and pictures.
As always, some of of the stories may be intense for the tenderhearted as they contain some war related peril.

Helpful when studying American history!
Review bySB
We have enjoyed the books in the What a Character! Notable Lives from History Series. The ten chapters covered ten important people in America’s history. We have enjoyed having the option of listening to the audiobook, but have found that we prefer reading the books, due to the engaging pictures and graphics. This is a great supplement when studying American History. It was good to become more familiar with these historical figures, especially the ones that we were less familiar with. I appreciate having these great resources to introduce my children to these inspirational people.

Famous American Statesmen
Review bySantina
Famous American Statesmen is another fantastic addition to the What a Character series of books. You are really drawn into the life of each statesman. The variety of artwork is visually engaging and does a great job conveying the culture of the time (clothing, jobs, ships). This is geared more toward upper elementary and middle school students. It would be great to read as a supplement to America’s Story, part of a morning basket read aloud, or as a stand alone read based on interest.

Engaging History
Review byLexie
This 'What a Character!' series is simply amazing for all ages. My kids are loving reading the books, not realizing how much history they are learning in the process. I've learned so much about the character of different people in history that I can now see through a new light. This book covers ten men who helped form our country. Many of the people presented on were men in history we had discussed before, but this book provided information well beyond any history book. There are really enjoyable pictures intertwined throughout the book which helps to add to the stories. Words that are difficult to understand are defined in the margin as well as in the glossary. Our favorite chapter was about Francis Scott Key. We felt that this book made him more than just the person who wrote 'The Star Spangled Banner' - there was so much more to his story! If you are looking for a book that is a clean way to teach history without a history book!
