Foundations in Faith is a homeschool curriculum designed to teach Bible doctrine to teens and preteens. Your students will learn the basics of what Christians have held true as they study Scripture along with the creeds, confessions, and catechisms used over time to instill biblical truths. These helpful tools have been written to help Christ followers cling to the authority of God’s Word and avoid the pitfalls of believing heresies promoted within the culture and possibly even the church.
This one-year course is conveniently scheduled so a student can complete 20-30 minute lessons five days a week.
Foundations in Faith offers homeschool families a simplified study of biblical doctrines to help teens and preteens learn the foundational truths that will guide them for the rest of their lives. This Bible elective course focuses on the teachings of Scripture. Your student will learn the primary doctrines; the basics on which all true Christian believe. Secondary doctrines (those that do not impact salvation) are not addressed in this course.
Foundations in Faith offers an overview of systematic theology using the Bible as the ultimate authority with creeds, confessions, and catechisms as helpful tools. Many of the creeds and confessions were written by church councils who were seeking to correct errors that had arisen in the church. Catechisms use a question-and-answer format to teach a summary of the principles.

Amazing foundational truths that all young people should know before they leave home. Such a blessing to find this so that I can prepare them for leaving home.

Truly foundational
Review byLaura
You could title this book “Systematic Theology for kids” or perhaps “Basic Christian Doctrine”. These doctrines include the Trinity, baptism, the resurrection, as well as many other essential doctrines the New Testament church has held for thousands of years. These are all things important concepts that every believer should know and understand. A study of several ministers and missionaries is also included. The workbook format challenges the student to think through what he or she is leaning. I highly recommend it for anyone who is wanting to learn more about the Christian faith. We will definitely be using this book with each of our children.

High School Bible Study
Review byLexie
This curriculum is designed for the high school level child, and it contains a very in depth study of the Bible. I really appreciated the two page note to parents at the beginning of the book just to preface that there might be specific things that each family chooses to differ on as far as beliefs. The author did a great job addressing those and specifying why certain topics were included although not everyone who reads this might practice those (i.e.catechisms). The NKJV is used for this book, but those who choose a different version should not have trouble just referring to their own Bible for references. The book is easily labeled for a 36 week school year to work 5 days per week with built in review days. Lots of different forms of questions are included to make sure the student understands the concept fully. I feel that a child who is in high school will benefit from this whether they have been in church and saved from a young age or are a new Christian as topics are easily explained. Some words they might hear often in church but not yet fully understand it are completely explained such as: justification, sanctification, evangelism, stewardship, confirmation.

Solid Course for Teens
Review byDawn
I have found that finding good basic Bible courses for my elementary students is easy because they tend to focus on the very basic church doctrines and the stories of the Bible that are agreed upon across different denominations.
However, finding bible and theology books for my high schoolers has proved a bit more difficult because they are starting to dive deeper and get into the more controversial theological points upon which Bible scholars and denominations tend to disagree.
I really appreciated the way this book often laid out the various viewpoints without stating which was right and wrong. This will allow me to explain to my children what we believe on those points and to show them in scripture why we believe it.
The book could be used independently by middle and high school students, but I would really recommend going through it with them so that you can have those important conversations about what your family believes.
This book takes a deep dive into theology using the Bible as the main resource but also including other resources and catechisms. There are a variety of different types of questions and worksheets to assess knowledge and keep students working and engaged.

Foundations - the things that we set down upon which all else is built upon. This course is excellent for your highschool and junior high kids to work through to discover the foundational beliefs of faith.

A must for every high school student
Review byBecky V
I have always believed that one of the most important things is knowing and understanding biblical doctrine and theology. It is so important, as Christians, to know what we believe, why those beliefs are true, and how to share those beliefs with others.
Foundations in Faith takes your student on a year-long study of examining what they believe about God and why, and growing in their own faith through prayer and study. This course is written at a 7th to 12th grade level and is set up to follow a 36-week schedule at 5 days a week. A Bible is required, preferably a NKJV, as well as the book "Great for God: Missionaries Who Changed the World" by David Shibley.
Some stand-outs for me are as follows.
The biblical text is not always just printed and referenced in the course. The student is directed to look up the references and know where verses and passages are found in the Bible.
The activities to solidify what the student has read for the day are varied so that it does not become boring or tedious work. This might include true or false, matching, fill in the blank, short answers written out, etc. The questions are also presented in a way to make the student think and reflect, rather than just look up an answer.
I really appreciate the Church History Biographies included in this course. These are short, introductory biographies, but a great starting point if the student wanted to dive deeper. The missionary studies are great too!
The memory work! Throughout this course, your student will be challenged to memorize Psalm 23, The Nicene Creed, verses with a reference of 3:16 from different books, and John 15:1-10.
There is a test for each quarter.
I would highly recommend this course and believe it is a must for every high school student.

Truly gives a foundation to your faith!
Review byAudrey525
Foundations in Faith is an essential book for the times we live in now. I believe that it is a course that would benefit all students as well as adults! It is so important to keep the Bible central and learn how to check things we hear against the truth of God’s word. This course truly gives a foundation to faith as it is named. It answers questions that teens are naturally going to wonder and gives the opportunity to dive deep into purposefully seeking answers. I love the book that is used, Great for God, as well. It is so good to study missionaries and see what a life used for God looks like. I am currently using this book for myself as my kids are asking these big life questions and I can’t wait until they are ready for it. They are just entering middle school, and I believe the course is suited for a little older. I think it should be required learning for high school!

Fantastic! Great way to strengthen your knowledge of biblical truth
Review byKathleen
With this book your student will: discover foundational aspects of biblical truth, learn to discern biblical truth from cultural assumptions, understand church doctrine & gain a deeper understanding of their faith. You are not just hearing the author's opinion here, he backs it up with scripture and asks the student to test his statements with scripture. Each lesson has different activities which we love. Their is vocabulary/definitions in every lesson. This book asks and answers many questions that we all seem to wonder about the Bible and our faith. We really loved this book. I definitely recommend this for high school students (and adults who want to have a greater understanding of biblical truth)

wonderful study of doctrine for teens!
Review byYulia
This is a wonderful curriculum for teens to study Christian doctrine and theology. It comes in a set of the Foundation in Faith main textbook and a supplemental Great for God book. It is enjoyable and pretty easy to understand.
I think teens can learn a lot through this curriculum. Israel does very good job explaining difficult topics in a manageable and easy to understand bites of information, yet the curriculum is still "meaty".
I think it is very essential curriculum for teens especially. As a preparation for them to enter the world of college, work and adulthood, so they can be well prepared in their faith and relationships with God. I highly recommend!

Great Overview of the Christian Faith!

I love this curriculum so much! This is the curriculum I wish I had when I was a new believer. It is a great fit for both individual study (older students or adults), as well as family style study. It is well organized and presents all the basics of the faith in such an engaging, easy to learn way.
