Foundations in Worship

My 14 year old son says "I love it! I love the songs! I love doing the presentations! I want there to be second edition!"

He gives it 5+ stars!

I had high hopes for this curriculum because my son is extremely musical. I'll start with the positive: It is pretty curriculum, we enjoyed how it is laid out and the color pages. This year I really wanted to be more intentional about doing a Bible curriculum because it's an area we lacked last year. I went back and forth on purchasing because of the price. I'm in Canada so everything is automatically way more expensive. But the fact that it was Bible curriculum with a music component really drew me in. I ordered two books, one for me and one for my son to complete together. Unfortunately we've been pretty disappointed. The only part of the curriculum we have enjoyed is listening to new hymns we didn't know about, I appreciate being introduced to some of these hymns - they have been really beautiful and some of them we still listen to. However, all of these are on YouTube and can easily be accessed without shelling out for the curriculum. We did not finish but all of the lessons we did complete were incredibly short, way too short to really sink our teeth into. We got 4 weeks in and still felt like all the lessons were so similar, lots of doctrine (which I get.. hymns are packed full of amazing truths)... but it just got very, very repetitive and boring pretty quick and it became hard for my 13 year old to see how he could really practically apply what he was learning. Some of the activities are lacking serious depth (draw an emoji about how you feel about this verse, write out the bible verse, etc.) Each lesson would take maybe 10 minutes to complete, it's just not enough for what I am paying for. I think this curriculum has potential, but I don't think it added anything of value that we couldn't have just done on our own without a curriculum, especially because of the price ($71.00 CDN plus more $$$ to ship it... it's just not worth the cost). As I said - has potential but it needs way more interactivity and needs to bring something more to the table to justify the price.

My senior (daughter) is using this for Bible. Today she said, “I am going to do my Bible first because it is makes me happy.” Thank you so much Master Books!

We have enjoyed learning about the hymns and their ties to scripture. Some of them are hard to understand due to how they were written.

My kids enjoyed learning about the different hymns and the people that wrote them. It was fun to find the hymns and hear how they had changed and been modernized. It showed my kids the relevance of older writings and how they apply to their lives today.

My daughter, a music enthusiast, has thoroughly enjoyed this book. The lessons are thoughtful, the approach is well planned, and the connection to scripture beautifully done.

What a beautiful devotional for kids to understand worship in a real way. Especially those that are musically minded.

This is SO cool! Really cool!! We are so thankful to have found this course.
Our 13 year old son loves it. We use it as his daily am Bible study. He started it when he was 12 in grade 7 with just the print off samples to see if he liked it, and he really did. It would be good for his age up to graduation …or after as well. (I‘m enjoying it myself!) he is an accomplished pianist and often plays piano for worship /hymn sing in our church, so this was right in line with one of his hobbies. It is the perfect supplement with his piano lessons and nice to hear a different hymn being practiced every week.
It was an easy decision to go ahead and buy the course and printing it off I ended up reading so much of it!) We are excited for when the younger sisters can benefit from it as well. What a blessing to study hymns and not let this tradition fade from the generations ahead. I know that studying these hymns will not only help him to learn about the musicians who wrote them but also learn and grow in his faith which will impact the next generations to come.

And that’s a wrap for Foundations in Worship. We had some great presentations last night. We did this as a group class. All of the students enjoyed this course and grew so much! They said this course was fun, engaging, enriching to their faith, and they pay more attention to what they’re singing in church, and the strength of the theology in worship songs. I call this a win and a life skilled earned. It’s been a beautiful year of growth! We are incredibly blessed and thankful for MB! Highly, highly recommend this course for middle or high school, Sunday school or family devotions! Also, seeing kids grow in their faith, defend it, and public speaking skills to share their testimonies and the gospel is beyond words! Buy this treasure and enjoy the journey!

My son is a music lover and has enjoyed this curriculum. I feel that there could be a little more to each day’s work. I also wish there was some sort of quiz/assessment available along with the project/presentation based assignments.
