According to the results of recent surveys, Americans overwhelmingly believe that HEAVEN exists, though a much smaller number believe that HELL exists, with only one-tenth of one percent believing they will go there when they die. Gary Frazier helps readers:
- Discern what beliefs are based on fact or fiction
- Discover the truth in the midst of so much deception
- Understand the depth of Scripture that speaks of HELL more than HEAVEN.
Hell is for Real is a clear search for truth, and truth matters for the simple reason that we all have a divine appointment with death. What if those who do not believe in HELL die one day and find they made a tragic and eternal mistake? Where do we turn for real answers? Should we look to movies, television, and stories of personal experiences, psychics, or religion?
Cemeteries and mausoleums dot the landscape of America as evidence and reminders of the sad reality of death. The good news is there is a source of hope that provides answers for each and every one who cares to seek the truth. Join the search and choose wisely because, eternity is too long to be wrong and Hell is for Real.
Customer Reviews
One of the strengths of the book is its clear commitment to biblical authority. Rather than relying heavily on speculation or sensationalism, the author consistently points readers back to what the Bible teaches, encouraging careful reading and reflection. The tone is firm but pastoral, emphasizing God’s justice alongside His mercy and holiness.
The book is written in an accessible style, making a difficult and emotionally heavy subject understandable for lay readers. While the topic itself is challenging, the author avoids unnecessary graphic detail and instead focuses on theological clarity and spiritual urgency. Readers are encouraged to consider the eternal consequences of belief and unbelief, as well as the importance of sharing the gospel with compassion.
Overall, Hell Is For Real is a challenging but valuable read for Christian adults seeking a clearer biblical understanding of hell. It is best suited for mature readers and could serve as a discussion starter in personal study or small group settings.
The most powerful message for me was the fact that so many people will be in hell, not just because of their sin, but because they knew the truth and rejected it. What a sober reminder to examine our own hearts and make sure that we have truly accepted Christ. It has also renewed my passion as I minister to the children in my church as well as my own family, and point them to Jesus and the eternal consequences for accepting or rejecting Him.
The book then interweaves a fictitious family (The Rhodes family of Normal, Ohio) into the Pre-Millennial story and shows where each member of the family falls into the Pre-Millennial events. I think this is ok from an artistic license perspective, however the main reason it seems this fictious family was interwoven into the book was to tell the Pre-Millennial story, not if Hell is Real and why it matters.
The author also made the claim in chapter two titled, “Fake Funerals and Perjured Preachers”…"In fact, I have never heard the word hell spoken at any funeral" and then followed up with, "If we talk about hell at all, we do so generally, theoretically, and theologically. But when it comes to identifying a given person who died and went there, we balk." My thought when reading these claims was, perhaps the author needs to attend more funerals. I have officiated funerals and have been to many in my shorter years than the author, and these things have been discussed. The author even claimed, "...all of us in ministry need to ask your forgiveness. I lied. We all lied...There is a reason we fake it at funerals and perjure ourselves as preachers. We want to comfort people...We want to bring consolation to grieving people. But in reality, we have lied." I appreciate the humility the author portrays and at the same time it is a bold statement to speak for every minister and claim “We all lied…”. I am an ordained minister that has officiated funerals and I understand the desire to comfort the family of the one having passed while at the same time faithfully and accurately representing the person being laid to rest. I have even preached the funeral of one that did not profess Christianity. By the grace of God, I was able to both comfort the family and speak truthfully about the recently departed and discuss heaven and hell. I am confident other ministers have been able to do this as well. I believe the author overstepped his authority and knowledgebase on these comments.
The author also advocated for the Pre-Tribulation viewpoint in chapter six. The author states, “In fact, the only position regarding the Rapture that fits with Scripture completely is the Pre-Tribulation position. This teaching fits if one applies the golden rule of interpretation: When the plain sense of Scripture makes sense, seek no further sense, lest you end up with nonsense.” I don’t even follow the Tribulation views and I thought this statement was a bit prideful and condescending. The author is obviously passionate about his view of end times, however speaking down toward other believers views in the way he was isn’t necessary, especially in a book that is supposed to be discussing if Hell is real or not.
Overall, this book is a disappointment and I would not recommend this book to someone trying to understand the topic of Hell. This book is less about Hell and more about advocating for the Pre-Millennial view and incorporating the topic of Hell into that.
