    I love each of this series. The pictures, the information, which is the perfect amount to get and keep kids interested. In this volume, we have the well known characters like John Smith and Pocohantas, and then also some intriguing figures like Brainerd and Francisco, whom I personally had never read anything about. I love that my kids are learning and we as adults get to expand our knowledge too.

    My kids have enjoyed the books in the What a Character! Notable Lives from History Series. We recently listened to the audiobook version of Heroes of Early America, written by Marilyn Boyer. While we missed out on the colorful illustrations found in the book version, we enjoyed the audiobook. The ten chapters covered ten important people of Early America and were each about 15 minutes long to listen to. It was the perfect amount to listen to while in the car. This is a great supplement when studying American History. Some of the stories were familiar yet others were new to us. I appreciate having these great resources to introduce my children to these inspirational people.

    This book has been an excellent resource and a fun and informative read aloud for my son. The stories of the people in this book have really made an impact on how we are learning about history and the people who helped along the way. My son stays engaged as we are reading and he is even asking questions. We are thoroughly enjoy it!

    Ten biographies of men and women foundational to the early formation of our nation are included. Perfect readers for grades 4 and up. This could be used as a companion reader to America’s Story 1 or a stand alone. Colorful illustrations and highlighted definitions are sprinkled liberally throughout each chapter. Consider purchasing the audiobook as well for the whole family to enjoy in the car and be reminded and encouraged by the lives of those who made great sacrifices and contributions in the formation of our great nation.

    Beautiful stories

    What a beautiful book! It talks about courage, faith, determination and hard work. Heroes of Early America tells stories of some important first settlers of America. It’s very encouraging for kids and adults to read about determination of these brave people and God’s providence during settlements as well. I really liked how some stories sort of follow each other and interconnect: it creates a bigger pictures how these heroes are connected in history.
    Some stories are pretty sad and maybe hard to read for younger children. I would recommend it for kids of maybe 10 and older depending on parents’ discretion.
