Great for development of narration skills
Review by Amy
I credit this with my child's excellent reading comprehension. There are 3 books that go along with the course and you cannot skip them!! They are key! Having my child retell the stories really grew her comprehension and narration skills. The stories are deep and a wonderful resource to grow children's faith. I used the part of the story in not too small at all...a mouse tale where the bird is encouraging the mouse in his created position as a mouse and not the sun, an ox ect. to encourage the concept of God's sovereignty as Creator and that no matter what we cannot change who and what we were created as. The books definitely brought us closer and planted important seeds of faith.
Fun and Simple
Review by Colette
This books builds on the Foundations Phonics book. It uses the Not Too Small At All and Charlie and Trike in the Grand Canyon Adventure, more of the Not Too Small book. They have the student analyze the text with the pictures, read some sentences and have conversations about the text.
The Language Lessons book uses a lot of visuals, examples and bookwork to help the students to understand word groups and their sounds and the rules.
Different for each child
Review by Lindsay
Our oldest son used this curriculum for first grade along with the phonics curriculum and had no trouble learning alphabet sounds, blends and to read. This past year our middle child started with this language book and the phonics book as well for first grade but struggled greatly. We tried to make it through but in November when I realized it was a great struggle I did supplement with another curriculum and it helped. He is now reading at the correct level and a little beyond. We did finish both of the language books that we were using as well as the phonics book after the sounds and everything starting to "click" with him.
Another great resource
Review by Leisha
The best part of this is that it's open and go and the amazing STORIES! my child has been learning so much and I feel like she is deepening her relationship with he Lord because of this book, specifically!
Great Curriculum
Review by Meagan
This was overall, a great curriculum. My child didn’t have issues staying interested or following along which is a huge win in my opinion. It has tools that helped me remember some of the basic rules of language arts as well. The only downfall I’ve found is that we finished the curriculum about halfway through the school year so I’ll have to do some supplementing to keep things fresh. But I’m still leaving 5 stars because it was everything I would expect for 1st grade.
Love it!
Review by Brittney
My daughter is really enjoying it and I love the open and go nature! It’s been a great fit for her!
Challenging-moves fast
Review by Averi
I felt like it was too challenging and frustrating for a learning reader. However, my child does shut down easily if a task seems too “hard” at the start.
Simple
Review by Johanna
My daughter and I love how short and simple the lessons are. She's autistic so keeping her attention can be hard sometimes. Thank you Master Books.
Good book
Review by April M
Good book … helps give information to where it’s not overwhelming.
I wanted to love this
Review by Jen
I used this for my1st grader who was a little behind on ELA, especially phonics. Very simple to use! But, I was hoping to have this be enough phonics, but it really wasn't. He really enjoyed the graphics/illustrations and art within the book and the stories. Be sure to take a good look at the sample before ordering so that you know if it will meet your child's needs.

Also, we all had a hard time because the grammar concepts don't seem to build on one another, be applied in an effective way through assignments, or be reinforced in a strategic way through review, so grammar felt pretty ineffective too.
