Perfect
Review byJennifer
We decided to upgrade to the new LFLE style from the original and I am so glad we did. My second child was struggling with our reading program (it was given to us so we continue to use it). When she began LFLE1 she bloomed! She just took off in her reading, excited to read again. MB has been a major blessing.

Been a great help
Review byAmberDragon
I found this when looking for something for my grade 1 to use while I wait for her full curriculum to arrive. We fell in love that I've even bought level 2 for her to carry on with and the other curriculum I bought I will only be using as extra practice.
Thank you for a great product.

Fun and Engaging Language Arts Lessons with a Biblical Worldview
Review byKelly Ann
One of the many things that I really enjoy about Language Lessons for a Living Education is that everything is all laid out and ready to go. There is minimal planning needed on my part in order to carry out the lessons. As a busy homeschooling parent, that is a huge bonus for me! There is a suggested daily schedule with all the lesson topics listed, along with answer keys in the back of the book, and even a recommended reading list by grade level. Of course the best part, the program is taught with a Biblical worldview, so not only is my son getting a solid foundation in language arts (phonics, spelling, reading, and handwriting), but the program also aligns with our core beliefs and values.
The full color illustrations are bright and fun, which is especially nice for teaching my younger child, because it keeps him even more intrigued. Another neat addition for the kids is the option for them to create their own dictionary, complete with extra space for them to draw a picture/description of their spelling words. We really liked this feature! We were using the Master Books math curriculum this past school year, my only wish is that I would also have included their language arts program much sooner. It's not that we didn't enjoy our previous language arts program, because it we've had much success with it, but Language Lessons for a Living Education offers a more gentle approach that doesn't just inundate my child with a ton of busywork and drills, which can be daunting for younger children. The lessons in this program are not only fun and engaging, but short and sweet, which is perfect for younger grade levels. We will definitely be purchasing Level 2 for the next school year and can't wait to see what it offers!

All in one language arts
Review byLaura
The study of language arts has many elements to it. This one book has it all for young learners. The lessons are short & engaging. One of my favorite parts of this curriculum is the fact that it teaches picture & narration study so the student learns how to really pay attention to detail. This book is meant to follow Foundations Phonics as a half year study but can be done in one year if desired.

Answer to Our Prayers
Review byTara
There is not enough for how much we love Master Books. I have a couple of reluctant learners. I had a “late bloomer” to reading. Foundation Phonics is what sparked his interest to reading. We just started the Language Lessons for a Living Education 1 and he is beyond excited to be expanding his reading knowledge.
Thank you Master Books for being the answer to our Homeschooling ventures!

Great for your early learner!
Review byLaurel
I am so grateful to have been able to check this book out. My son is 5 and a reluctant "school"er, although he actually loves learning. He's not a "sit at a desk and do a long lesson" kind of kid, at least not yet, and I think this will be a great way to ease into being able to do longer lessons. We have enjoyed using Simply K and MFALEK this year, and will be working through Foundation Phonics next in preparation for using this book. I like how it gently builds on the skills developed in the phonics program, and I love how it incorporates reading and responding to stories, narration, and has such colorful and kid-friendly graphics. The spiral approach to learning is also one that I think will work well for my son. (My daughter thrives on mastery-style for most subject areas, but every child is different and I think this will be a good fit for my boy.) Thank you, Master Books! :)

Looks Like a Great Language Curriculum for 1st Grade!
Review byJanessa
We already owned Language Lessons for a Living Education for grades 2-4, and I was so excited to see this book released!
As a busy mom of 5, I need homeschool lessons that don't require a lot of prep work from me. Thankfully, I've found that in Master Books' Living Education books, and this one is no exception.
The book is well laid out and full of colorful illustrations to help keep children engaged. This book covers a variety of important grammar concepts including blending sounds, phonics, handwriting, reading comprehension, and more.
My 5 year old daughter is just finishing up kindergarten and I'm so excited to begin this course with her. After looking through the book, it looks just like what she needs to grow her language skills now that she's reading.
One important thing to note is that you'll need to purchase 3 other books (to read with your child) to use with this language book.

Very excited to start this course!
Review byLove2BeMom
The Master Books preferred method for a gentle introduction to reading is using Foundation Phonics in the first half of first grade and Language Lessons for a Living Education 1 in the second half. There are enough lessons to do 5 days a week for half a year or do 3 days a week to cover it over a year. You can adjust the pace according to the needs of the child.
A prerequisite for this course is the child should be able to know how to read short words and sentences. There are three required reading books (published by Master Books) to complete the course and to practice reading skills.
This course is easy to follow, open and go. The teacher notes with helpful guidance for each lesson are clearly marked, with little or no prep needed to complete the lessons. You simply read the page aloud and discuss with the child and then the child has a short lesson to do. Lessons provide extra critical thinking and problem-solving practice and build on what the child already knows about phonics, strengthen writing skills and cover some basic grammar concepts.
I am very excited to start this in the next few weeks! I appreciate Master Books’ gentle approach.
