An invaluable resource for Christian high school students!

The high school curriculum for Language Lessons is really well written! This curriculum for students ages 14-15 is amazing and teaches so many important concepts, like English mechanics, literary analysis, essay writing, and how to develop a biblical worldview. They learn how to cite sources, analyze and research topics, and engage in thought-provoking discussions, while also learning about one of our most important founding fathers, George Washington. There's sections for students to log their independent reading, and they will learn how to produce God-honoring and well-written essays that encourage a love - or at the very least, a high regard - for literature. An invaluable resource for Christian high school students!

Biblical worldview, life application, open and go!
Review byJoyfulMommy
Our primary reasons for using Master Books are the Biblical worldview emphasis, the direct life application, and the easy-to-use prescheduled format, with lessons addressed directly to the students. This curriculum exceeds my expectations in all of those areas!
The literature and writing focus in this level are the biographical and autobiographical genre. Students will be guided through Life of Washington as they complete the first semester, and excerpts from two autobiographical accounts in the second semester. They are shown how to analyze styles and details in writing in order to learn to be a more effective communicator themselves, which they get to practice as they write their own biography and autobiography in the course of this study. They also will observe character traits, how they are rooted in Scripture, and how to make application to their own lives.
As grammar and punctuation exercises are given, students are reminded that they are important because they are necessary for clear communication. I appreciate the reminder that communication happens many ways - verbal or nonverbal - and can include things like how we dress, body language, things we say, or things we do not say. Proverbs teaches much about this and students study this wisdom book throughout the course. Vocabulary words are taken from the week’s reading and taught in context, which is especially helpful with the 1800’s writing style in Life of Washington.
I am thankful that this book is available to help prepare our students to glorify God by loving, honoring, and serving others with clear and respectful language skills; and to know God in a deeper way through studying His Word and learning from the godly character of those who have gone before.

Sophisticated course
Review byYulia
Language Lessons for a Living Education 10 is a very sophisticated course. It teaches a variety of writing styles: biography, self reflections, historical essay, definition and persuasive essays to name some. Moreover, this course continues to teach high schoolers important communicational skills and character traits through studying of the Bible passages. In addition, this particular level includes learning MLA style for citation. It is such an important skill to learn especially if a student decides to go to college or university in the future. The back of the book provides so many useful study sheets and additional worksheets for a student to refer to and practice their writing and grammar. It is very well organized: the pages are not busy looking; the new terms and important phrases are bolded which makes it easy to follow; and the color choices are soothing to an eye. This course is truly amazing. I am so grateful to the authors Kristen Pratt and Sarah Gabel for writing such a beautiful curriculum to prepare our kids for college and life.

A great handwriting course with projects!
Review bysara
Our family has been using the language lesson series for our four kids and have used every level. I am very thankful that they have decided to continue into high school, so this was a great addition to our library. The high school versions definitely step up the work as well as what they learn yet still follow a wonderful weekly frame work that is easy to manage. Each week there is a day of biography studies, hymns, picture, and poetry study. Also adding in grammar, essay writing and studying the life of George Washington. Reviews days are a plus so you can make sure you child is picking up the various concepts, and teacher resources are available In the back to make the corse run smooth.I am very excited that they will be using the ‘life of Washington’ book, I had really wanted to fit these biography books into my kids schedule but did not see how it was going to happen!

So Glad to See This
Review byJulie T.
My son is in 11th grade this year. We did not discover Master Books until he was in 5th grade. We really enjoyed the MB LA curriculum that we were able to complete. I was thrilled to see that they were extending it through high school.
MB is thorough in every curriculum that they produce. This program covers everything needed to have a well-rounded education.
I love that they incorporate Christ throughout the series. This is so important to me. This is why we chose to homeschool 17 years ago.
This gives the student one English credit. It is based on a 180-day year, five days a week. I really like the ease of the lesson plans in the book. This has made it so parent friendly in that there is very little for me to do. I often read through the curriculum myself. I enjoy it too.
This includes a picture, hymn, Scripture, and poem study. It also includes vocabulary words and Scripture memorizations. It covers grammar, punctuation, communication, and worldview and literary analysis. It covers a biography of George Washington which is a treasure in itself.
I look forward to all that we will learn this year.
Thanks Master Books! You did it again!

Fantastic!
Review bySantina
Language Lessons 10 is a great addition to the series. It follows a consistent, five day per week pattern and provides excellent instruction and review in all aspects of language arts. It is written for a high school level yet, speaks directly to the student and fosters independent learning. The special feature and literary and worldview analysis sections stand out as an effective way to develop writing and critical thinking skills. Life of Washington is a required book in the course. It is an interesting biography and would be fun to read and discuss together with your student. Overall, I feel that this course helps the student to become an effective communicator, develops higher level vocabulary, and continues to help the student master grammar skills. The rubrics at the back of the book are very detailed and a great resource to guide the parent in grading the variety of essays that will be written by the student throughout the course.

Great addition to the series
Review byLacee C
I truly appreciate that Master Books listens to their customers AND DELIVERS! Language Lessons for a Living Education 10 is a great addition to the LLFLE Series. I love that it is comprehensive and teaches the students creativity, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, grammar, MLA style citation for research, critical thinking, communications skills and more - ALL IN ONE BOOK. Now, you will need Life of Washington as LLFLE10 uses it weekly as well, but the curriculum is all in the book. As with level 9, level 10 follows a pattern. Day 1: special feature, spelling & vocabulary, and scripture memory. Day 2: grammar & punctuation. Day 3: communication. Day 4: Worldview and Literary Analysis. Day 5: Review (which can be used as quizzes or tests). The special features include picture studies, poem studies, scripture studies, & hymn studies. I appreciate the simple layout and flow of the curriculum. It is easy for students to complete on their own.

Excellent!
Review byBecky V.
We have loved using the Language Lessons for a Living Education (LLFLE) series and I am so excited that it is being continued at the upper levels. I am so thankful to be able to provide my children with educational material that is so intentionally written with an emphasis of growing and strengthening their faith in order to share it with others.
This book is targeted for grade 10, earning your student 1 English credit. It follows a 36-week schedule, five days a week, with a daily time investment of about 50 minutes. The Life of Washington is required (an excellent book!), as it is read throughout the first semester.
It follows the same pattern that has been introduced throughout this series:
Day 1 exposes students to new vocabulary/spelling words, Scripture memory, and a special feature that includes a variety of picture studies to hymn studies, and more of the like. Day 2 focuses on grammar and punctuation. Day 3 expands on communication skills. Day 4 is worldview and literary analysis day, where Life of Washington and other excerpts will be studied. Day 5 is a review day of that weeks’ lesson. These reviews can be used as a weekly assessment if so desired. It is very organized in set up and makes it clear what your students can expect each day.
Other than the required text, this course is truly an open and go course. All assessments and answer keys are included. The Appendix has so many resources that aid in successfully completing this course. Reading lists, worksheets, outlines for essays, study tips, weekly spelling lists, spelling rules, grammar study sheets, and communication study sheets are all included.
This is a course that is very to-the-point, no fluff, challenging, but perfect for the student at this level. This course is truly a treasure!

Great curriculum!
Review byCrystal
I am so thankful that Master Books is creating Language Lessons for the high school years! We love the simplicity and comprehensiveness of the curriculum. It’s written to the student, has a very easy to follow format, and has everything you need for a full language arts curriculum. It covers it all – grammar, spelling, vocab, writing, literary analysis, research, speaking, and more. I like how each day of the week is structured, and how day 5 serves as a review to help reinforce the ideas learned throughout the week. We have been pleased with Language Lessons for each grade so far and plan to continue using them.

Best one yet!
Review byKristy
I am so pleased with this newest level of LLFLA. Level 10 is everything I hoped it would be and more. It is set up very similar to the previous levels. For instance, each day focuses on a different skill. Day 1 introduces vocabulary and spelling words, Day 2 is grammar and punctuation, Day 3 is communication, Day 4 focuses on The Life of Washington (a biography the students will read through during this course), and Day 5 is for review and tests or quizzes. The lessons take about 45-50 minutes to complete each day, which is par for the course in high school.
I have used all levels of LLFLA and they just keep getting better. My oldest son is in 10th grade this year and has started level 10 already. The vocabulary words are such a great part of this curriculum. He has already memorized so many new words and their meanings. It also has the student memorize a new Bible verse each week. This is so important in maintaining a spiritual level to this course. Throughout the duration of the book, the student will also be writing a biography and autobiography. I am most excited about this because it is going to challenge my son in areas that he struggles with.
