An invaluable resource for Christian high school students!
Review bydeonva
The curriculum for Language Lessons is really well written! This curriculum for students ages 14-15 is amazing and teaches so many important concepts, like English mechanics, literary analysis, essay writing, and how to develop a biblical worldview. They learn how to cite sources, analyze and research topics, and engage in thought-provoking discussions.
This curriculum also features an engaging biography on the life of one of our most important founding fathers, George Washington. "Life of Washington" is an in-depth study into the life of someone everyone has learned about in history class, but may not know much of when it comes to Washington's firm faith.
Through this curriculum, students will learn how to produce God-honoring and well-written essays that encourage a love - or at the very least, a high regard - for literature. An invaluable resource for Christian high school students!

Open and Go
Review byLexie
So many of us have been waiting for the high school version of our favorite language arts curriculum to come out, and LLFLE 10 did not disappoint. Found within this book, your child will study hymns, works of art, scripture, scripture and biographies on Monday. Tuesday is devoted to grammar. Wednesdays are for writing paragraphs ad essays. On Thursdays your child will analyze reading from the book Life of Washington. Fridays are devoted to reviewing this information. I will say, I am quite impressed with the level of study in this book. Because it is a high school course, the author did a fantastic job at covering, in detail, information needed to lay a foundation for higher level literature. Topics such as proper MLA format for references are a topic of study. The vocabulary presented on day 1 of the week is defined and the student has an exercise to help learn those words. The words found there are contained in the reading, but my daughter needed a little more involvement to really remember and be able to use those words properly so we had to add in exercises like writing sentences and flash cards to help her learn it fully. As a mom, I am very grateful that the answers are still included in the back of this book so as not to need to purchase a separate teachers guide.

They will learn how to apply grammar and punctuation rules in their writing. They will also learn research skills through the MLA style of citation.
This book will help a student to be able to share their faith in a way that is engaging.
They will learn a Biblical Worldview and Literary Analysis which will help to lay the foundation for navigating their life.
I love the picture, hymn, scripture, and poem study throughout this book.
Some of the great features of this book:
-36 weekly lessons- 180-day schedule
-Open and go workbook
-Rubrics included for assistance with grading
-Reviews in each lesson
-Answer Keys
The Teaching Resource Section at the back of the book includes both required and optional aids and activities. It is an extremely helpful resource section that includes over a hundred pages of resources. To name a few: Recommended reading book list, Vocabulary Study Tips, Communication Study Sheets, and Tips for Better Writing.
There is an additional required book titled Life of Washington by Anna C Reed. That book is used in the first semester to allow the student to focus on the character of George Washington and examine his speech and behavior based on biblical truth.
Life of Washington: This book was written in 1842 by Anna C Reed, the niece of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. There are 12 chapters broken up by the years he lived.
The introduction to this book tells a captivating story of Christopher Columbus that leads up to the 1660s were some states were being settled by Europeans. Anna gives the reader insight into George Washington’s exemplary character and personal faith in God. He showed humility to God and man throughout his life. I loved the style of writing in this book. I felt engaged and just wanted to keep reading more. I especially love how throughout the book the author showed how God was working through all of it. I highly recommend this book, it is not just a biography but a great story.

Biblical worldview, life application, open and go!
Review byJoyfulMommy
Our primary reasons for using Master Books are the Biblical worldview emphasis, the direct life application, and the easy-to-use prescheduled format, with lessons addressed directly to the students. This curriculum exceeds my expectations in all of those areas!
The literature and writing focus in this level are the biographical and autobiographical genre. Students will be guided through Life of Washington as they complete the first semester, and excerpts from two autobiographical accounts in the second semester. They are shown how to analyze styles and details in writing in order to learn to be a more effective communicator themselves, which they get to practice as they write their own biography and autobiography in the course of this study. They also will observe character traits, how they are rooted in Scripture, and how to make application to their own lives.
As grammar and punctuation exercises are given, students are reminded that these seemingly trivial details are important because they are necessary to be clear communicators. I appreciate the reminder that communication happens many ways - verbal or nonverbal - and can include things like how we dress, body language, things we say, or things we do not say. Proverbs teaches much about this and students study this wisdom book throughout the course. Vocabulary words are taken from the week’s reading and taught in context, which is especially helpful with the sometimes quaint 1800’s writing style in Life of Washington.
Speaking of Life of Washington, it was originally published by the American Sunday School Union and has a very strong Christian perspective. It begins with an overview of the early discovery and settlement of America, particularly the life of Christopher Columbus. I think his devotion to God and missionary mindset in the discovery of America can be somewhat controversial; but by tenth grade, students should be able to read various perspectives and draw their own conclusions. The character of George Washington is certainly exemplary and there is much to be learned from studying his life. I find this book inspirational and think it was a wonderful literature choice for this language level. Additionally, this book is reprinted in a neat, antique sort of way with rough cut page edges and old-fashioned illustrations and typeface.
I am thankful that this book is available to help prepare our students to glorify God by loving, honoring, and serving others with clear and respectful language skills; and to know God in a deeper way through studying His Word and learning from the godly character of those who have gone before.

Sophisticated Course
Review byYulia
Language Lessons for a Living Education 10 Set is a very sophisticated course. It teaches a variety of writing styles: biography, self reflections, historical essay, definition and persuasive essays to name some. Moreover, this course continues to teach high schoolers important communicational skills and character traits through studying the Bible passages. In addition, this particular level includes learning MLA style for citation. It is such an important skill to learn especially if a student decides to go to college or university in the future. The back of the book provides so many useful study sheets and additional worksheets for a student to refer to and practice their writing and grammar. It is very well organized.
Life of Washington (the reader for this level) is a great choice. It is important for a young leaner in the culture we live in. It teaches about our American heritage, godly character, God's providence and many wonderful fundamental things that any person will benefit from learning.
This set is truly amazing. I am so grateful to the authors Kristen Pratt and Sarah Gabel for writing such a beautiful curriculum to prepare our kids for college and life.

a great well rounded language arts course!
Review bysara
Our family has been using the language lesson series for our four kids and have used every level. I am very thankful that they have decided to continue into high school, so this was a great addition to our library. The high school versions definitely step up the work as well as what they learn yet still follow a wonderful weekly frame work that is easy to manage. Each week there is a day of biography studies, hymns, picture, and poetry study. Also adding in grammar, essay writing and studying the life of George Washington. Reviews days are a plus so you can make sure you child is picking up the various concepts, and teacher resources are available In the back to make the corse run smooth.I am very excited that they will be using the ‘life of Washington’ book, I had really wanted to fit these biography books into my kids schedule but did not see how it was going to happen!

So Glad to See This
Review byJulie T.
My son is in 11th grade this year. We did not discover Master Books until he was in 5th grade. We really enjoyed the MB LA curriculum that we were able to complete. I was thrilled to see that they were extending it through high school.
MB is thorough in every curriculum that they produce. This program covers everything needed to have a well-rounded education.
I love that they incorporate Christ throughout the series. This is so important to me. This is why we chose to homeschool 17 years ago.
This gives the student one English credit. It is based on a 180-day year, five days a week. I really like the ease of the lesson plans in the book. This has made it so parent friendly in that there is very little for me to do. I often read through the curriculum myself. I enjoy it too.
This includes a picture, hymn, Scripture, and poem study. It also includes vocabulary words and Scripture memorizations. It covers grammar, punctuation, communication, and worldview and literary analysis. It covers a biography of George Washington which is a treasure in itself.
I look forward to all that we will learn this year.
Thanks Master Books! You did it again!

Language Lessons 10
Review bySantina
Language Lessons 10 is a great addition to the series. It follows a consistent, five day per week pattern and provides excellent instruction and review in all aspects of language arts. It is written for a high school level yet, speaks directly to the student and fosters independent learning. The special feature and literary and worldview analysis sections stand out as an effective way to develop writing and critical thinking skills. Life of Washington is a required book in the course. It is an interesting biography and would be fun to read and discuss together with your student. Overall, I feel that this course helps the student to become an effective communicator, develops higher level vocabulary, and continues to help the student master grammar skills. The rubrics at the back of the book are very detailed and a great resource to guide the parent in grading the variety of essays that will be written by the student throughout the course.

Great addition to the series
Review byLacee C
I truly appreciate that Master Books listens to their customers AND DELIVERS! Language Lessons for a Living Education 10 is a great addition to the LLFLE Series. I love that it is comprehensive and teaches the students creativity, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, grammar, MLA style citation for research, critical thinking, communications skills and more - ALL IN ONE BOOK. Life of Washington included with this set is needed as well as LLFLE10 uses it weekly, but the curriculum is all in the book. As with level 9, level 10 follows a pattern. Day 1: special feature, spelling & vocabulary, and scripture memory. Day 2: grammar & punctuation. Day 3: communication. Day 4: Worldview and Literary Analysis. Day 5: Review (which can be used as quizzes or tests). The special features include picture studies, poem studies, scripture studies, & hymn studies. I appreciate the simple layout and flow of the curriculum. It is easy for students to complete on their own.
