Excellent High School Level Language
Review by Deon
Just like the other Language Lessons, this English curriculum has a weekly lesson plan that is easy to follow as both the teacher and the student! I love the essay and presentation additions to the high school curriculum, and how it subtly weaves in logic. Reading comprehension, persuasive and pre-college writing, and worldview basics are taught so well in this class! And this is perfect if you have a slower reader - this way, you can hand-pick the books on their reading list and get them learning how to write better. Highly recommended for all 11th graders!
Very well written course
Review by Yulia
Language Lessons for a Living Education level 11 is a wonderful addition to the series. It is well written and organized. The course prepares students for a college and/or adulthood.

It teaches how to write essays, deepen the relationship with God, learn important traits, how to apply grammar, and to learn and apply logical thinking when writing essays and in life overall.

It teaches APA citation style and provides useful outline and organizational sheets at the end of the book to help students organize their material and write a proper paper using APA citation format.

In addition, it teaches students important character traits such as self control, responsibility, courage, faithfulness, perseverance, compassion and etc. It uses biblical and fictional or nonfictional stories to teach these important qualities. The memory verses are correlated with the character traits discussed during that week.

The course focuses a lot on teaching logic and reasoning. I really like how it’s presented to the students in a practical and easily understandable way.

LLFLE 11 provides students with important vocabulary words to learn and memorize. Some vocabulary words are from the entrance exams for college which is so helpful for students planning to attend college. I wish I could have a course like that growing up; it would make my exam taking experience much more pleasant
Great!

This is such a beautiful course, it is written and structured well. Easy to open and go.
It follows the same format of the other LLFAL books which our children have enjoyed so much!
Excellent preparation for glorifying God with communication!
Review by JoyfulMommy
Every time a new Language Lessons book is released, I wish two things: first, that I had these books available when I was in high school; and second, that I had time to personally study them all now! I am DELIGHTED that this series is being continued through high school and that our children get to benefit from the practical AND spiritual instruction throughout. Not only is it thorough in its academic instruction, it is thoroughly biblical discipleship material that will equip our children to communicate for God’s glory, in whatever role He calls them to in their futures. I love the typical Master Books design, too, that enables students to be largely independent with their studies. Another excellent MB course!!!
Complete Language Arts Course
Review by Laurie
Language Lessons 11 follows a similar format to the previous courses in the series, but not in a redundant way. The course includes special features such as hymn study, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, communication, and other skills.

This course offers 1 High School level credit for approximately 45-50 minutes of work in a schedule that is set up for five days a week.

The scheduled layout makes this course well-organized and easy to follow, as it includes a suggested layout at the beginning for both the student and teacher to follow along.

Although my son does not love reading or language arts in general, he did say that this course does a good job of explaining the lessons in a way that made him feel like he was actually learning. So, for me, that is a win!
Love it!
Review by Julie T
I am so excited to see this series being carried through high school!  My son has enjoyed all of it, gulp, even the writing!  LOL! Each day of the week is committed to some form of language arts whether it be grammar, writing, spelling, vocabulary, etc.  It is an all-in-one book which takes roughly 50 minutes each day.  Ninth and tenth grades used a book throughout the year which required outside reading.  This one does not.  Everything is in one book which makes it easy to grab and go on those busy days.
Our only regret, or maybe it is only my regret, is that he graduates this year so we will not be homeschooling when the 12th grade series comes out.
We have thoroughly enjoyed Master Books over the years.  They are of high quality and bring Jesus into every course, even math!  Love it!
One thing I really like about the 11th grade course is all the studies they do.  They will be doing studies on hymns, poems, pictures, as well as other things.  They are also studying different character traits.  I really like that they are incorporating those into the course.
We are looking forward to another great year with Master Books, our last year.  Thanks Master Books for all you do for our children!
Another great Language Arts curriculum!
Review by S
In usual Masterbooks style, Language Lessons 11 is laid out in an easy to follow format: 36 weeks of 5 daily lessons for a total of 180 lessons. The weeks follow a pattern: Day 1 studies a Special Feature such as a hymn, poem, picture, Scripture or book excerpt, along with vocabulary, spelling words and Scripture to memorize. Day 2 covers Grammar and Punctuation, Day 3 is about Communication (with God and others), Day 4 focuses on Worldview and Literary Analysis, and Day 5 is a review day. I really appreciate that along with learning better writing and communication skills, the students are also digging deeper into Scripture and learning about heroes of the faith and notable people from history, such as John Paton, Harriet Tubman, Clara Barton. Language Lessons 11 contains such a variety of components that it keeps students’ interest and doesn’t feel repetitive.

There are also many helpful tools in the back of the book: reading & book lists, writing prompts, spelling lists, outlines and worksheets, study sheets, grading rubrics, and the answer key.

My family has enjoyed using the Language Lessons for Living Education curriculum through the years and we are glad that it now covers 11th grade as well. We appreciate that this curriculum points us closer to God while also helping develop students academically.
Well-Rounded
Review by Dustie
This series is such a blessing! It truly is designed to help the student develop superior communication skills. It really is open-and-go, and it includes all of the components of a complete high school language arts course in one book. Like the other Master Books courses, the schedule and course objectives are included, making it very helpful for both the parent and the student to stay on track. I think this also helps foster independence for the student and provide clear expectations.
The vocabulary and scripture memorization help solidify good habits and build on previous levels. The grammar and writing components help the student perfect the skills they built a foundation for in earlier levels. The authors include the step-by-step process from brainstorming and outlines, to citing sources properly, to the finished product. The inclusion of logic makes this a unique and well-rounded curriculum, helping students develop discernment and critical thinking skills. It truly helps the student gain a new perspective when it comes to communication with others.
One feature my children and I have found helpful in the various levels is the reference section in the back of the book. In this level, it includes sheets that guide the student in writing an outline for an essay, as well as a reference for properly citing references. I really appreciate that there are extra credit and additional activities available. I find this helpful when I need to ensure that my students understand a topic completely or if there is a second chance needed on a particular assignment.
Overall, I am pleased that the Language Lessons series continues throughout high school. This course is sufficient for those who are college bound, but it is also a wonderful high school language arts course for students who are not, as it is designed to develop communication and logic skills that are useful for life, in general.
A great addition to the Language Lessons series!
Review by CRill
A great addition to the Language Lessons series! As always, this course builds on concepts like punctuation, grammar, and writing learned in previous levels while adding details that dig in just a bit deeper. Spelling and definitions are included weekly as well. With an emphasis on communication, students learn more about essay writing and public speaking, among other things from a biblical worldview that is applicable to everyday life. The layout is engaging and easy to follow, giving students a desire to learn what's next. You'll enjoy this book!
Open and Go
Review by LaceeC
I love that MB is continuing the Language Lessons series through High School! This level is open and go and does not require an outside book (other than normal additional reading assigned by the teacher). It follows the same basic format as prior levels with the exercises rotating each week in the same way.
Exercise 1 will always be a special feature, vocab and spelling, and scripture memorization. (I appreciate this change from early levels where spelling was on day 5).
Exercise 2 is grammar and punctuation day.
Exercise 3 is communication day. This is where essays will be written - and the ONLY day they will be mentioned, so if you have a kiddo that needs more focus you might want to write at the end of each exercise for them to continue working on their essay so they don’t forget! The first essay is a cause and effect essay and is introduced in Lesson 5 Exercise 3 Day 23. Lesson 6 Exercise 3 continues the work on the essay talking about structure and working on an outline and teaching about APA style for citing sources. Lesson 7 Exercise 3 Day 33 talks about adding research and the next steps, it also tells the student that the rough draft is due the following week. Lesson 8 Exercise 3 has the rough draft due with the final draft due the next week in Lesson 9 Exercise 3 on day 43. So while the student has plenty of time (20 days) to work on the essay, I think that there could be a bit more direction on the other days of the lesson for the student to continue working on the essay they are assigned.
Exercise 4 is worldview and literary analysis day. I appreciate that the writing pieces are all included in the text making this a truly open and go course! There are various types of writing that are all clearly labeled as to what they are including poetry, folklore, legends, historical and biblical accounts.
Exercise 5 is review day. My oldest student feels like these can be repetitive since he just went over them a day or two before. I tend to agree with him and feel like a quarterly or even every 4 lessons review would be better and perhaps add something different on Exercise 5. Of course you can always assign it this way for your student and have them only complete exercise 5 every month if you find your student dreading it as much as mine does. Perhaps it could be used as a day to work on their essay?
I do like that each level builds off the last. And I like that MB always ties it back to God and the Bible. Timing of the course says approximately 50 min per day, 5 days a week… but depending on your student this could be 20 min one day and an hour and a half another (like on essay days). I think the thing I appreciate the most is the exposure to different types of literature and art throughout the course as well as the God-centered focus.
