Homeschool families love that Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 2 continues the fun and engaging story of Claire and Micah. Using the Master Books method of education, author Kristen Pratt incorporates poems and picture studies, as well as faith-growing verses to reinforce what students are learning. Educational activities and assignments also include memorization, grammar, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, observation, psalms, and letters. Students learn to apply their new skills by creating their own stories from pictures and sentences.

Level 2 focuses on developing early reading and narration skills. Your student will start forming basic sentences utilizing phonics, observation, and reading comprehension. By the end of the course, students should be able to comfortably write up to three sentences at a time.

A helpful and detailed daily schedule:

  • DAY 1 - A special feature or a short story; weeks in between alternate between picture studies and reading poetry or a psalm.
  • DAY 2 & 3 - Learn about writing topics such as grammar and punctuation
  • DAY 4 - Create a story, poem, or psalm
  • DAY 5 - Focus on spelling and vocabulary

Each quarter has five stories, two picture studies (one of which is Bible-based) and two poems (one of which is a Psalm.) Using the spelling words and the dictionary worksheets, students will create their own dictionary as they move week by week through the material.

Scope and sequence, a daily course calendar, and additional learning resources including independent reading lists, spelling words, practice sheets and more are included to help your student master basic concepts. Reviews are also incorporated throughout the course to help them understand and apply what they learn.

NOTE: Additional readers are not required for this course. Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 2 is included in the 2nd grade homeschool curriculum package.

Excellent!

Excellent material and really helps build reading, writing and comprehension skills!
Language Living 2
Review by Christine
My kids originally used Abeka for language arts in 1st grade. So going from that to this was very different. There was a lot less writing. However, my kids enjoy these lessons much more. They are shorter, less tears when it comes to writing, and the lessons do build and at times repeat a little to make sure that they are remembering what was already learned. They enjoy the stories that flow with each week. This has worked better for our family and so glad that we found it.
This curriculum may work for families who prefer a light, open-and-go approach, but it wasn’t a good fit for us. The lessons are very short, lack review, and the spelling isn’t phonics-based, which made it confusing for my early readers. I ultimately had
Review by Not Good for Foundational Language Arts
I’m writing this because it’s the review that I wish I had read before investing in this curriculum. I really wanted to love it, but after giving it a fair try, I don’t feel it’s a strong choice for teaching true language arts skills- especially for early readers or writers. The spelling portion isn’t phonics-based, so it can be very confusing for children who are still learning how to sound out words. It seems to rely more on memorization than understanding patterns.

The lessons are also extremely short, and while that might appeal to some families, I found that new concepts are introduced quickly with very little practice or review. For example, a grammar or writing skill might appear once and then never come up again. That made it hard for my child to retain what was being taught. If you use this, it will require more thorough teaching of concepts, as well as initiating your own review of them.

While I know this program works for some families who prefer a light or open-and-go approach, for us it felt incomplete. I wish I had known this before purchasing- it would have saved us time and money. I’ve never had to replace a curriculum mid-year before, but I found myself needing to order a new one partway through our second quarter. I truly felt that if I didn’t make a change, my kids would start to fall behind in their learning.
So fun and full of growth
Review by Jess
My 3rd grader has been working on this during the summer. He really enjoys this and loves the drawings and stories. With his dyslexia he struggles with sentences and word structure but every time we work on this he gets so much stronger. We have loved the narration portion because it forces him focus on what the story is truly about and the details and then putting the ideas into his own words.
Halfway through and we love it!
Review by Charlotteak
I started level 2 halfway through my daughter’s “1st grade” year. It’s been great! I like how seamless the transition from level 1 to level 2 is. My daughter is looking forward to continuing with Language Language for a Living Education after we finish this book.

We love Language Lessons. They are short, engaging lessons. They reinforce previously learned topics.
It's Amazing

We switched to Master Books this year. It has been such an improvement from our prior curriculum. My child is so much more engaged and has really started to enjoy learning with these books.
Loving it!

We switched over to this curriculum this year and have been loving it. My kiddo has become so much more engaged in learning.
Daughter loves it!
Review by Rosemary
This book has helped my daughter make better sense of Spelling. The workbook only has one day of Spelling activity per week, but we like to pair that with the free version of spellingcity.com, where there are many spelling activities to choose from! She also enjoys the days where she gets to draw and then write sentences to "tell her story." This book really meets kids at their level, and I am so thankful that we found it after trying a few other options from other companies that didn't hit it off with her so well.
