Master Books’ beautiful language arts curriculum, Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 4, helps fourth grade level students master writing strong and descriptive paragraphs. They will learn story elements, the eight parts of speech, letter writing, and much more!

Complete with fun, full-color worksheets and the continued story of Claire and Micah, Level 4 keeps students engaged and excited to learn more!

Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 4 teaches students to recognize types of verbs and verb agreement, plural pronouns, prefixes, contractions, synonyms, root words and more. Continuing with what the student has learned in Level 3, Book 4 will add to their communication skills. They will review and refine lessons from Level 3 in addition to learning these new skills.

Within the course, students will:

  • Master state of being verbs, action verbs, and possessive nouns
  • Review sentences, singular and plural nouns, adjectives and adverbs
  • Identify abbreviations, proper use of punctuation marks, spelling, root words, compound words, and suffixes
  • Create their own dictionary with words learned through the course
  • Learn to create good paragraphs based on structure and comprehension
  • Develop skills in using the dictionary and a thesaurus for spelling and vocabulary- building
  • Explore the Scripture, parts of letter writing, copywork, and more!

Language Lessons for a Living Education is uniquely effective in teaching communication skills and the Gospel. In Level 4 of this award-winning series, each quarter has five stories, two picture studies (one of which is Bible-based), and two poems (one of which is a Psalm). Using the spelling words and the Dictionary Worksheets, students will create their very own dictionary as they move week by week through the material.

A helpful and detailed daily schedule:

  • DAY 1: Focus on a short story, poem, picture study, select Bible verses
  • DAY 2 & 3: Writing topics such as grammar and punctuation
  • DAY 4: Reading from 101 Favorite Stories of the Bible, Scripture copywork and memorization
  • DAY 5: Creating your own dictionary with a focus on spelling and vocabulary

Scope and sequence, a daily course calendar, and additional learning resources including independent reading lists, spelling words, practice sheets and more are included to help your student master basic concepts. Reviews are also incorporated throughout the course to help them understand and apply what they learn.

Gentle Is The Perfect Description
Review by Shelly
This curriculum is amazing for my boys who hate language arts. It’s not too intensive and doesn’t last long, it’s gentle introduction and style is perfect for them! Their favorite pages are the pages that refer to the 101 Favorite Bible Stories book and they look forward to it every week!
We Love it!

Seriously love this program and how comprehensive it is while still being simple and most importantly GOD focused.
The best
Review by Ashley
This won’t use too much ink. Most can be printed in black and white. We love this curriculum. My favorite thing about it is how short the lessons are. We can do you lesson, or we can do extra and finish early. It isn’t redundant and doesn’t waste time with busy work. I got my reluctant writer feeling more comfortable.
We love it!

There is so much to love about this curriculum! It is so versatile and adaptable. You can easily add to it or skip parts, if you want. While we had studied grammar some, I'm happy to be covering more writing. There are so many extras, like games and activities, in the back for extra practice. My son’s favorite was the “Just for Fun” sections with mazes and things that add a bit of excitement. This book covers so much material, but it's laid out in bite-sized chunks so it's not overwhelming. It covers copywork, picture studies, memorization, grammar and spelling rules, paragraph writing, vocabulary using root words and so much more! I have to add that the extras in the back are so helpful. There is a list of skills to be mastered so you can easily make assessments. There are also extra copywork pages and grammar study sheets. This is the LA program I have been looking for years and now its here! We love it!
Love it!

We bought the downloadable version as both of my girls are doing this together. When there is a story, we read it together off my computer. This works great, as we can print off the work pages and save the best ones! Level 4 is really below grade level for both my girls, but this is what was available at the time we started and we really wanted to use this series. Because this is such a gentle approach, they are able to complete more than one lesson a day. This is one subject they really look forward to doing!
My daughter enjoys it

My daughter is enjoying this work (and is learning a lot). It is the right amount of practice without being overwhelming. She can do most of it independently, but occasionally calls me over for a question
Gentle yet Effective
Review by Angelia
My son and daughter are both enjoying this curriculum. My son however has been a very reluctant writer and so much so hated writing even a few sentences. Masterbooks makes this Language Arts so gentle even your reluctant writers don't really notice the growth! We are making such huge improvements and the best thing is my son told me today he "Loved this" and he is actually excited to do his work and not complain over writing!
Great LA
Review by Joy
I told my son he was finished with the 4th grade LA he had been doing when we still had 6 weeks of school left. It was so repetitive, the same 3 or 4 concepts over and over. I chose this simply as a review for the rest of the year b/c my younger son had been doing level 2 and really enjoyed it, and level 5 wasn’t out at that time. Well, this turned out to be so much more than just filler! It was bright, engaging, and there were concepts that he hadn’t touched in a year’s worth of lessons in the other curriculum. He worked through level 4 at an accelerated pace, often doing a week’s worth in a day or 2. I am so pleased with and thankful for Language Lessons 4. We will be continuing with the next levels.
Language Arts worth trying
Review by Sara
My son and daughter are both enjoying this curriculum.
Wonderful!
Review by Christi
This is our 2nd year homeschooling, and last year was full of tears using a different grammar and writing curriculum. As a result, my child did not retain the information taught. Language Lessons for a Living Education uses stories to teach not only character/virtues but the actual content. My child actually looks forward to doing his lesson and we get to have conversations about the character things, too.

I chose to get the pdf file so that he can have access to it on his tablet for schooling on the go, and we print things out as needed. So far, that is working for us--no mess all over the desk or car! We don't spend as much on paper, ink, and binding; we have more room for other books, and it saves me a TON of time preparing lessons.

Big thank you to MasterBooks, your curriculum is bringing my child closer to God and to me!
