Wonderful course!

Even with the heavy writing, my daughter flew through this due to how much she enjoyed the writing prompts. She also enjoyed illustrating the Bible accounts and the worldview lessons.❤️
So glad for this

I'm so happy MB came out with these older versions of LLFLE. My daughter loves it. I've asked if she wants to switch to something else and I'm always met with "no way". I love that everything if focused on God's word. She's learned a ton and I love watching her grow as a writer.
Worked Great!

I am so glad we made the switch to Masterbooks for language arts. We needed something that just gets to the point and doesn't have a bunch of fluff to it. My son has been able to finally do language arts without complaining. His spelling has improved as well. I also enjoy God's Story and read it with him each week. Highly recommend this curriculum.
Very good

We like how this book is paced. It gives just the right amount of material for easy lessons for a child that struggles.
Not my favorite...
Review by MegG
I'll keep this review short. This is a very time consuming course. I have also noticed that not all the pages are included in the answer key. I'm not sure if that is a mistake or what? But as a mom of 6, doing school with 5 of those kids, I don't have the time to flip around in the workbork and try to figure out if all the answers are correct or not. If you are going to include an answer key, make sure there is one for each page of work

Editors note: The answer key for day 5, the review day, is located immediately after the regular answer key. This answer key is separate for families that choose to use the review day as an assessment.
Nice variety but significant amount of writing, answer key has multiple pages out of order, which is time-consuming, a bit too much busywork.
Review by Mia
While we appreciate the Christian worldview and variety, there is a significant amount of writing for the average student, which can be overwhelming for students who find writing challenging. We were able to make some modifications, but we do not plan to use it next year. Additionally, there is quite a bit of what I would consider busy work. Also, the answer key has multiple pages out of order, which is very time-consuming.
Wonderful course!

My 14 year old daughter has had a rough journey spiritually, and a couple of months back she officially accepted Jesus as her Savior, and she said she feels like Master Books Language Lessons played a part in helping her with all of the in-depth Bible studies and worldview built into the lessons. Just as it is obviously important to choose the correct school choice (homeschool over public or private school), it is also important within homeschooling to choose the correct curriculum to help our children grow in Jesus!
We also love the in-depth grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and writing skills covered in the course!
amazing!

I am having so much nostalgia working through Language Lessons 8 with my 14 year old. I remember writing my vocabulary words on notecards, defining them and using them in a sentence in 8th grade!! What I think sets this curriculum apart is the Courtesy section on Day 3. Whoever thought of that is brilliant! So helpful to have someone other than parents addressing those topics; it's good for the whole family. We came from Writing Strands, which we did for 3 years, prior to that we did Language Lessons 1-5. My child is a slow reader and couldn't keep up with the reading assignments in WS so we came back to Language Lessons. Thank you for doing a thorough job on this one! Any of the language offerings at MB is an excellent choice, but this one is a gem.
Language studies to prepare ambassadors for Christ!
Review by JoyfulMommy
Our family loves this Language series! It truly is written by homeschool moms for homeschool families, and includes features we have come to love with Master Books courses: open-and-go format with a schedule in the front, easy to follow layout, concise lessons written directly to the student, answer key in the back of the book, along with helpful essay templates, word art examples, and more. Most important to our family is the decidedly Biblical worldview. I love that this course will actually guide students through writing their own statement of faith, and help them analyze other statements of faith as they come across them.

Literature studies and analysis selections include a variety of excerpts from nonfiction works, hymns, poems, and Scripture (the final selection is from Pilgrim’s Progress, which will whet students’ appetites for the indepth study of this wonderful work in the following year with Language Lessons 9!). From these excerpts are taken the vocabulary and spelling words for the week, so they are first studied in context which makes them much more practical than simply a list of spelling words. Students will also study famous works of art, learning to observe details of brush stroke types, the way color choices affect what is communicated, etc.

I love how this series makes grammar and punctuation so practical and straightforward. Often the passages used for practice exercises are stanzas from hymns, famous poems, or otherwise edifying reading material. The courtesy lessons that were begun in Language Lessons 7 are continued, reinforcing the understanding that communication is ALL to be done to edify others and glorify God - whether that is remembering to kindly greet family members in the morning, dealing with bullying, or realizing the importance of replacing negativity and criticism with joyfulness and contentment.

Repeated overview of the Bible, gaining more depth with each successive volume, is one more feature I appreciate about the Language Lessons series. This volume continues what was begun in Level 7 reading through God’s Story (or reading the accounts in their own Bible) and gaining practice summarizing and identifying the main message of the Biblical account. I know that while the language and writing skills they learn will equip them to be successful in their communication, an understanding of the Bible will give them a solid foundation to continue to build upon as they grow in their walk with God.

The included God’s Story book gives a wonderful overview of the whole story of Scripture, clearly showing the battle between man’s way and God’s way - or man’s ongoing struggle to submit to God’s authority and the victory God has promised and won over sin! It has beautiful illustrations (as with all Bible story illustrations, they give opportunity to talk about what we *think* these scenes might have looked like, and how these are one artist’s rendering of it), and the text summaries provide wonderful examples of how to summarize a passage. The “Thread of Hope” pages are rich with keen observations drawing out the themes of the stories, showing how they point to Jesus. I think my very favorite part of the book is the timeline of Israel and Judah’s kings along with the prophets and “fast facts” about each prophet’s name and message. The maps are great and I really appreciate the chart contrasting Genesis and Revelation (such as “Ground is cursed, Genesis 3:17” and “Curse is done away with, Revelation 22:3”). This book will be a blessing to your family beyond just its usefulness with Language Lessons 8.

I am thrilled that this series is being continued to include every level through high school, and look forward to watching my students grow in their faith and communication skills as they progress through all of them!
An invaluable resource for Christian junior high students!
Review by deonva
The curriculum for Language Lessons 8 is tailor-made for junior high students! This curriculum for students ages 12-13 is amazing and teaches so many important concepts, like grammar and punctuation, vocabulary and spelling, and most importantly, developing a solid, biblical worldview. Students will learn how to analyze literature via book excerpts, hymns, scriptures, and poems.

This book is a beautiful Bible study resource and school supplement! God's Story retells 120 stories from the Bible for all ages to understand, pairing these timeless biblical tales of redemption with beautiful illustrations to match. There are simple summaries for younger readers, and Bible references for older students if they wish to delve into further study. It's a book every homeschool family needs to have on their shelf.

Through this curriculum, students will learn how to produce God-honoring and well-written essays that encourage a love - or at the very least, a high regard - for literature. An invaluable resource for Christian junior high students!
