daughter works through lessons on her own. loves the format. requested this curriculum for every year.
So Very Comprehensive
Review by Candice
I LOVE that this curriculum really covers everything about Language Arts! Vocabulary, Grammar, Literary Analysis, Writing, Oral Communication, etc. It is really a one-stop shop for English. I am thoroughly impressed!

There is a teacher section in the back that has loads of extras.

It is open-and-go and has grading rubrics for assignments.

The Pilgrim's Progress tie-in is excellent. I am personally reading Pilgrim's Progress right now, and I enjoy reading it myself!
Language Lessons but for High School
Review by Barbara D
My son was excited to hear that Language Lessons didn't stop but continues into high school.
As a mom I like the easy to communicate schedule between parent and child so they know what is expected of them. Like the levels that come before every day is a different exercise that teaches copywork, picture study, poems, and Psalms in exercise 1 as well as Vocabulary. Exercises 2 and 3 go over grammar, writing, and communication.
Exercise 4 works along with Pilgrims Progress. I love how this was incorporated so there is not only studies on this type of literature, but also critically thinking about worldview. The Pilgrims Progress is good to study and I like how it has been incorporated into this level.
Exercise 5 (or Fridays) is a review of what the students have covered all week. (A note, the answer key for these review days is in a separate part of the answer key from the rest of the exercises for the rest of the week. While this may not work for some families, should a parent choose to leave the answer keys available for the student to self grade regular exercises and parent grades the reviews this works well.)
I also like the gentle approach to writing an essay and working with it. As the student continues through the course and adds to their writing, there is notations on where certain topics were originally introduced for easy reference. (This streamlines many questions my kids ask me. "Mom, where is the lesson on ___" I don't have to search, the page number is written there for my kids.)
I like that this is a familiar style for the kids who have used this series but steps it up for high school.
I can't forget to mention the teacher helps in the front of the book as well as in the back of the book. The course information is in the front with the schedule, the study sheets in the back, as well as the grading rubric with the answer key, which is very helpful for grading when the grades now go on a transcript.
I am glad to have found this for my kids and wish I had it as a homeschooled high schooler.
Excellent

This our 3rd year using LLFALE. We loved studying Pilgrim's Progress. The language of the writing my teen does find a bit tricky. We found an audiobook version she can listen to and read along. The weekly looking up definitions of words is interesting. The rubric's at the back are very helpful for marking the essays.
Comprehensive!
Review by Mama Thomas
Language Lessons is a wonderful curriculum series! I was so pleased to see it covering Pilgrim’s Progress in such depth while also covering everyday communications like interviews. I saw my son take on more responsibility for his work while going through this course. Looking forward to more LLFALE!
Perfect course
Review by Samantha
This set is perfect! I absolutely love how open and go this is! It helps cut down on planning time and eases my mind that everything is being covered in this one course. We also love how you can just flow right into this from LLLE 8! We also absolutely love the Journey Journal! The scripture references, spaces for summary and notes, and the “words to know” sections make the journal so well rounded.
The best language arts curriculum
Review by Jaime
I really love how this course prepares high school students to think critically, write all kinds of essays, and go deeper in their faith and understanding of God. Although possibly a current English version would have been easier, I love Pilgrim’s Progress and feel like its principles apply so much to the Christian life today. Having the old English version makes for more critical thinking which is also important.
Seal of approval from 14 year old boy!
Review by Marissa
My 8th/9th grader has been working through this course. He says it's his FAVORITE course and he very much enjoys the Pilgrims Progress book. He likes it much more than the LA he did previously from another popular homeschool company.
Good Language Arts Curriculum
Review by Michele
My 10th grade son completed this book mostly independently. He was pretty creative with the vocabulary words when he needed to write sentences, and he enjoyed Pilgrim’s Progress. While the language was “old”, I felt it was a good change of pace and kind of stretched his brain in a good way. :)
All in one curiculum that my daughter actually did on her own!
Review by Lori
I love the fact that my daughter can do her schoolwork all on her own! I work full time and it's hard to make time to do courses with her now. My daughter was motivated this past year to get everything done on her own. I heard no complaints about it, and she stayed pretty much on schedule. (She has always procrastinated before.) I highly recommend this curriculum that goes over several parts of English in one year.
