Exceeds Expectations!
Review by Becky V.
I have been so excited for the Language Lessons for a Living Education series to be continued for the upper levels, and Level 9 does not disappoint! I love that it guides you through Pilgrim’s Progress over the year. And ultimately, this is an amazing course that prepares students to be able to communicate and share their faith in whatever opportunities and challenges they may be presented with in their daily lives.

This book is targeted for grade 9 and up and is set up for the student to earn 1 English credit over a 36-week schedule, five days a week. A Bible and dictionary is required, as well as the Pilgrim’s Progress, journal edition.

Day 1 exposes students to new vocabulary, spelling words, Scripture memory, and a special feature that includes a variety of picture studies to hymn studies, and more of the like. Day 2 focuses on grammar and punctuation. Day 3 expands on communication skills. Day 4 is where Pilgrim’s Progress is studied and focuses on worldview and literary analysis. Day 5 is a review day of that weeks’ lesson. These reviews can be used as a weekly assessment if so desired. It is very organized in set up and makes it clear what your students can expect each day.

All assessments and grading keys are included, as well as grading rubrics and templates. Grammar study sheets are also included in the appendix, which are truly a great resource and tool to have!
Trusted Language Arts Course
Review by Laurie
This course has it all regarding language arts—reading, spelling, grammar, punctuation, communication, worldview & literary analysis. It's an all-in-one course requiring only this textbook, the classic book Pilgrim's Progress by Paul Bunyan, and some basic supplies. Our family has chosen the Living Lessons series over and over since we started homeschooling; I'm so happy they have continued this series into High School levels.
Wow!

We already use and love Language Lessons for a Living Education in our house, but this one is even better. It includes Language Arts, grammar, essay writing techniques, public speaking, communication skills, character training and even evangelism training.
It’s absolutely amazing! I love that this course uses Pilgrim’s Progress Journal as a required text. They work so beautifully together. I highly recommend.
I'm so excited this course has continued!

I am so excited that this book is out! We have used Language Lessons for a Living Education for the past several years and haven’t found anything comparable for the older grades. I also love that Pilgrim's Progress is integrated into the course.

This curriculum is very comprehensive, covering all the subject areas under the Language Arts umbrella. Each week covers grammar and punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, literary analysis, and writing. There are picture, scripture, and poetry studies throughout. I am so happy to find all these areas in the same course.

The course is written to the student and can be completed independently. There are a few sections that need a parent’s check off before proceeding, but they are clearly marked. I love how in-depth this curriculum is, yet it’s so simple to use.
5 stars!!

This is designed for 9th graders. This course covers writing grammar literary analysis parts of speech like analogies metaphors and similes it breaks down into days. Day one of the week is the special feature which is either a passage from Pilgrim's Progress Journal, which is required for this course (it can be bought at masterbooks.com) picture study, hymn study, or scripture study as well as vocabulary and spelling words. Day two of the week covers grammar and punctuation and application for them. Day three of the week covers communication including writing, verbal, and nonverbal, and technological communication. Day for the week covers worldview and literary analysis. And finally, day five of the week is a review of what the child has learned over the week. These can be used as quizzes or tests if you would like. It includes a suggested schedule tips on how to grade and the answer key and like all other language lessons for a living education we have the goodies in the back of the book which include a book list suggested book list templates and outlines spelling and vocabulary lists grammar study sheets communication study sheets and a rubric to use if you want to. The building of this curriculum book is amazing I just love how it puts everything together. The pictures that are in the picture study are detailed and so neat to look at. My oldest daughter will be using this book and has completed the first week so far and she loves it.
A language arts course that is beautiful, engaging, and nurturing to the soul!
Review by Joyful Mommy
I am SO excited that the Language Lessons for A Living Education series is being continued through the high school levels, and even more so now that level 9 is released! This book is beautifully designed, written to the student in a very engaging way, full of superb poetry, hymns, art studies, excerpts from John Bunyan’s writings, and Scripture study. I love that the students will be studying through Pilgrim’s Progress, and the companion Journey Journal edition is exceptional! I can’t think of a better way to grow students in their faith and biblical worldview than to have their language studies comprised of such rich food for the soul!

As the authors remind students, understanding and developing good language skills not only enables students to glorify God and honor those they communicate with; language skills are a key to their success in life. “Effective communication is vital to your relationships, your education, your future, employment, and your relationship with God.” There is a strong emphasis on the fact that communication reveals what is in our heart, whether the communication is written, spoken, or through body language. Weekly worldview study and Scripture memory serve not only to build critical thinking and memory skills, but also help students identify their own worldview and what is in their heart.

Grammar is made relevant as students are reminded that proper grammar helps us to honor others by communicating clearly and distinctly according to the rules of the English language. Essay writing is thoroughly explained and the student is walked through step by step the various types of essays and how to successfully write them in an interesting and well-planned manner. Similar to spelling exercises in earlier levels, vocabulary exercises give room for creativity as students interact with their words for the week by using them in sentences. And, as with all prior levels, the book is structured in an easy-to-follow format with a checklist schedule in the front of the book, clearly marked exercises for each day, and helpful study sheets in the back.

I’m thankful that this book is available to help prepare our students to glorify God by loving, honoring, and serving others with clear and respectful language skills; and to know God in a deeper way through studying His Word and the writings of a faithful Christian of the past. May each student walk courageously on the narrow path as they journey to the Celestial City!
amazing 9th grade language arts course!
Review by Sara
Language Lessons is wonderfully continued in this 9th grade course! This course is beautiful and has everything I would expect from a language lessons for a Living Education course, but stepped up to the high school level. There is a new component to this level which is a literary analysis that continues throughout the year of Pilgrim’s Progress. Make sure you buy the Pilgrims Progress: The Journey Journal! The weekly structure is great with 1st day having a rotating study ( scripture, book passage, hymn, picture, or poem) and vocabulary. Second day is grammar and punctuation, and third day is communication. Fourth day is worldview and literary analysis with the fifth day being a review sheet combining everything they have learned through the week. For paper/essay writing they first go over the main types of essays in the communication section and then as the weeks progress they will go on to write their own essays of each. Everything you need for Language arts is in this course! I am so excited to begin this level with my coming 9th grader, their skills are going to be sharpened greatly!
Highly recommended

This has been highly anticipated in our home. It has not disappointed our family. This is a well-organized and thorough course that reinforces a Biblical foundation, much like the previous levels. It helps develop communication skills, writing skills, scripture memorization, grammar, various aspects of communication, and vocabulary. I really like the literary analysis, worldview focus, and use of Pilgrim’s Progress. This course, in my opinion, will truly benefit the high school student and help prepare them for the communication skills needed for adulthood.
