More Information
Language Lessons Level 2 focuses on developing early skills in reading, writing, and narration. Your student will form basic sentences, continue using phonics to read, hone their skills of observation, and deepen reading comprehension. Students will apply these new skills by crafting their own stories with pictures and sentences. By the end of the course, students should be able to comfortably write up to three sentences at a time.
Practice Makes Polished Level 2 comes alongside with matching practice in spelling, grammar, reading, and writing, so every new skill gets the reinforcement it needs to stick.
Teach It, Then Practice It
This bundle pairs a complete curriculum with its matching practice book. Language Lessons teaches each new concept through the fun and engaging story of Claire and Micah. Practice Makes Polished reinforces those concepts with engaging worksheets, activities, and bite-sized lessons. Each practice section corresponds with the 36 weekly lessons, so review always lines up with what your student just learned.
Project-based Learning
As they move week by week through the spelling words, students will create their own dictionary — tangible evidence of what they’ve achieved through the course.
Spiral Review
The frequent review incorporated into the program lets learners demonstrate success while cementing their newfound skills into long-term mastery.
Practice That Flexes with Your Student
Practice Makes Polished Level 2 is divided into three key concept sections: Spelling, Grammar & Reading, and Writing. Use its flexible activities however your student needs them most:
- For targeted practice in areas that need extra reinforcement
- As enrichment for students who enjoy an added challenge
- For summer bridge work to prevent learning loss between school years
- As ongoing review throughout the year
- For independent learning fun, letting children choose their favorite activities
Alternative schedules are included.
Variety and Fun
This full-color, grab-and-go curriculum and practice workbook both incorporate a varied mix of subject matter and activity types: picture study, memorization, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, observation, poems, psalms, letters, and creative writing. Practice exercises use a broad scope of modalities from spelling with color and stack it up spelling to silly stories, journaling, and word play.
A Weekly 5-Day Recurring Pattern
The weekly schedule means zero prep for you and a predictable pattern for your second grader:
- DAY 1 – Reading a psalm, poem, or short story or observing a picture.
- DAYS 2 & 3 — Learning a topic such as grammar or punctuation.
- DAY 4 – Applying what was learned by creating a story, poem, or psalm.
- DAY 5 — Focusing on spelling and vocabulary.
The Master Books Approach
Language Lessons offers the right pace with the best methods so that kids enjoy writing and succeed with it not only in second grade but in years to come. This bundle is developmentally appropriate, giving students the ideal amount of challenge to foster both mastery and confidence. There’s zero fluff; just meaningful, practical application.

Customer Reviews
We have especially enjoyed creating our own stories with the Word Play activities, and as the teacher, I really appreciate the journal prompts. I also like that if we need to review a concept, I can use the Practice Makes Polished book instead of searching online for review pages.
Now that these books are available as a bundle, it's even easier to make sure we have the resources we need.
While you will need some additional readers of your choice for your student, nothing else is required with this program, making it a very cost-effective option. I also really appreciate the scripture included in the curriculum. There are fill in the blank activities, journal prompts, games, picture study, word finds, etc.
My favorite parts are the weekly prompts for the student to draw a picture and tell their story or to write a Psalm. It has been a great and gentle way to introduce writing at this tender stage, and these assignments have become keepsakes for us.
I also love that the lessons are pretty short and simple. That being said, I really struggled to teach some parts of this course to my oldest because she needed a little bit more practice and what was included in the main course. I was so excited when Practice Makes Polished 2 came out in time for my second student to use this year. It has taken away so many of the friction points that we had with my oldest.
I especially like the wordplay worksheets for cementing the parts of speech as that was something that my oldest could have used a lot more practice with. We enjoy mixing up how we use the wordplays with sometimes having the context be a mystery which has produced some hilarious fun. We are also very grateful all of the spelling practice activities and Practice Makes Polished. Thanks to the extra worksheets, we have been able to change our Language Lessons Schedule a bit so that my daughter can do spelling as a daily subject instead of just on day 5.
Practice Makes Polished is very adaptable though and is separated into different sections so you can choose to focus on one aspect at a time if you wish as well. We are saving most of the extra writing section for a summer review and using the other parts alongside our regular lessons during the school year.
I love that there is this bundle option to purchase the lesson book and the practice book together. It really helps people like me eliminate decision fatigue and it makes it easier to find everything all in one place.
We have also enjoyed adding the Master Books Academy supplement for Language Lessons 2 (available separately) alongside this bundle.
Language Lessons worked great for my son by itself, but my daughter needed a bit more and Practice Makes Polished was it!
