More Information
Language Lessons Level 3 continues to develop reading, writing, and narration proficiency. Your student will begin to write simple, multi-sentence paragraphs. Additional topics include compound words, contractions, sentence combining, helping verbs, letter writing, and prepositions.
Practice Makes Polished Level 3 comes alongside with matching practice in spelling, grammar, reading, and writing, so every new skill gets the reinforcement it needs to stick.
Teach It, Then Practice It
This bundle pairs a complete curriculum with its matching practice book, plus the required reader the lessons are built around. Language Lessons teaches each new concept, and every week your student reads from 101 Favorite Stories from the Bible, answers narration prompts, copies and memorizes a Scripture verse, and sketches the story's illustration. Practice Makes Polished Level 3 then reinforces each concept with engaging worksheets, activities, and bite-sized lessons. Each practice section corresponds with the 36 weekly lessons, so review always lines up with what your student just learned.
Project-based Learning
As they move week by week through the spelling words, students will create their own dictionary; tangible evidence of what they’ve achieved through the course.
Spiral Review
The frequent review incorporated into the program lets learners demonstrate success while cementing their newfound skills into long-term mastery.
Practice That Flexes with Your Student
Practice Makes Polished Level 3 is divided into three key concept sections: Spelling, Grammar & Reading, and Writing. Use its flexible activities for extra support, enrichment, or summer learning, together with the course or on their own.
Variety and Fun
This full-color, grab-and-go curriculum and practice workbook both incorporate a varied mix of subject matter and activity types: picture study, copywork, memorization, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, observation, poems, psalms, letters, and creative writing. Practice exercises use a broad scope of modalities from spelling with color and stack it up spelling to word searches, silly sentences, and journaling. Penguin extension activities bring the reading comprehension passages to life with puppets, drawing tutorials, and a 3D papercraft.
A Weekly 5-Day Recurring Pattern
The weekly schedule means zero prep for you and a predictable pattern for your third grader:
- DAY 1 — Reading a Bible passage, short story, or poem, or observing a picture.
- DAYS 2 & 3 — Learning a topic such as grammar or punctuation.
- DAY 4 — Reading from 101 Favorite Stories from the Bible, doing Scripture copywork, and memorizing passages.
- DAY 5 — Focusing on spelling and vocabulary as you create a personalized dictionary.
The Master Books Approach
Language Lessons offers the right pace with the best methods so that kids enjoy writing and succeed with it not only in third grade but in years to come. This bundle is developmentally appropriate, giving students the ideal amount of challenge to foster both mastery and confidence. There’s zero fluff; just meaningful, practical application.

Customer Reviews
I do love how level 3 introduces writing a paragraph with a paragraph sandwich. That part my oldest caught on to pretty well. She mainly struggled with the explanations for the grammar concepts. My oldest was also a younger student, so having short and sweet lessons was somewhat of a blessing because her attention span was not very long at that stage. My future student does well having the information in a more concentrated form without any fluff. We have enjoyed using the practice books so that we can make spelling a daily subject since that is where she tends to struggle more.
My oldest enjoyed using the level 3 wordplay worsheets this year as a 4th/5th grader to further cement the parts of speech. I love how these activities and others apply the language arts concepts in a more practical, real life format. We enjoy mixing up how we use the wordplays with sometimes having the context be a mystery which has produced some hilarious fun.
Practice Makes Polished is so adaptable and is separated into different sections so you can choose to focus on one aspect at a time if you wish and it is easy to save some sections like the extra writing practice for a summer review and use the other parts alongside regular lessons during the school year.
I love that there is this bundle option to purchase the lesson book and the practice book together. It really helps people like me eliminate decision fatigue and it makes it easier to find everything all in one place.
We have also enjoyed adding the Master Books Academy supplement for Language Lessons 2 (available separately) alongside that bundle, and will likely to do the same with 3.
*As a side note, you will want to make sure you review your options for which Bible story book you use alongside Language Lessons 3. We personally had purchased both God's Story and 101 Favorites for variety for the days where they copy the illustration from the Bible storybook. My daughter used a sketch journal for this activity that she kept over the years and it is a fun keepsake to look through.
The Language Lessons book covers everything in an easy, open-and-go format, and the Practice Makes Polished book gives students the extra practice they might need in the various areas. I appreciate that I can offer the extra practice when needed and skip it for concepts we have already mastered. Also, even with the practice book included, the lessons are short and sweet, with no lots of busywork. Most students will take only 15-20 minutes to complete the day's lessons.
You only need to purchase one required reader to accompany this bundle, making it a very cost-effective option. I also really appreciate the scripture included in the curriculum. There are fill-in-the-blank activities, journal prompts, games, picture study, word finds, etc.
I now have this set all ready to go for my daughter. In addition to the extra spelling practice and the penguin passages, there's also grammar review and the journal passages my daughter loved from Practice Makes Polished 2. The grammar review activities varying from crossword puzzles, to matching, to fill in the blank and more. (My daughter loves the fill in the blank stories with asking me a noun, adjective, etc.)
Paring these two books together is completely flexible, as well as paired well in what was taught in Language Lessons and reinforced in Practice Makes Polished.
So thankful that this bundle exists now! Thank you Master Books.
