More Information
“When we believe the Bible as it is, we will see the power of God move in our lives and in our community as it did centuries ago in Bible times.”
-Mel Tari
Translated into dozens of languages, with millions of copies sold, Like a Mighty Wind remains a beloved classic from global evangelist Mel Tari. Recounting the incredible story of revival on the island of Timor during 1965 in the midst of political turmoil, the book is an amazing testament to the power of faith and the reality of God's power to work miracles in modern times.
The Spirit of God that swept across the island “like a mighty wind” continues today throughout Indonesia although persecution of Christians is all too common. The story of God's powerful revival in this region remains a testament to the truth of God's Word, and serves as a reminder to all believers that the Spirit of God manifests in our world now as it did in the earliest days of the Church.
Customer Reviews
Mel learned to hear the voice of the Lord and responded in obedience. His message: Return to the Simplicity of the Word.
The author, Mel Tari exemplifies a spirit filled life.
Mel Tari shares of the many miracles he witnessed during this time including those of healings, water to wine, travel mercies, protections, and whole communities turning from their idols to the One True God. He shares of his experience traveling as a missionary to the United States and being shocked at the state of our country spiritually.
Honestly, I found Tari’s testimony to be both inspiring and almost unbelievable at the same time. This was my first time hearing about the Indonesian revival and it has definitely raised my curiosity to seek more about it.
There were a few things I wasn’t totally in agreement with like Mel Tari’s view on physical sickness as well as his view on tongues. But, I find it always good to see other people views and to compare it to Scripture. It by no means dissuades me from sharing this book with others. Regardless, it does help to remember that this book is the view and experiences of one man.
The one thing that I really took from this book and appreciated was the reminder that God isn’t only God of yesterday and tomorrow, but He is also God of TODAY.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8

This book recounts the work of Holy Spirit in the the 60's through the testimony of one man. Maybe, just maybe we need to be reminded of what Holy Spirit is capable of - what God can and will do when He is allowed to move untethered by religious constraints of what is acceptable.
Absolutely refreshing. Can be used as a stand-alone or combined in one of the multiple resources offered. Either way it's a great read.
Nowadays, most people don’t think God performs miracles like He did in the Bible. Gone are the days of people being raised from the dead, sick people being healed, and walking on water. But, Mel Tari witnessed these things in his own country and came to the USA to tell his testimony and bring people to Jesus.
In his book, Mel goes into detail about the miracles that happened in Indonesia and how it affected the people there. He tells about how God spoke directly to the people to pray or go to do missions work. The revival that took place can only be because of God and the Holy Spirit. The people there listened and obeyed and, in the end, saw the fruits of their obedience. He witnessed the churches flooding with new believers as the Gospel reached far and wide.
Although this book was written in the 1970s (reprinted in 2021), it still continues to inspire believers around the world. People need to be reminded that the God of the Bible is the God of today. He does not change and miracles still happen all around us. This story gave me goosebumps and I plan to read it aloud to my children. I pray that it motivates them to continue following God and His Word.

The Holy Spirit moves in a way that is in a different manner. The numerous testimonies in this book are remarkable. Christ sent the people from Indonesia on numerous amount of missions work. It talks about miracles, healing the sick, foiled witches, and raising from the dead himself. A fire was started supernaturally feeling the church without destroying it. They talk in real tongues in German, French, and Hebrew which was new to me. I have never known it. In other words, this book is a story of trusting in God all the way without doubts.
