5th year
Review by Lindsay
This is my oldest son's 5th year using math lessons for a living education and he has loved it until this year. Nothing is wrong with it at all, this is just the first year that he has absolutely struggled with math. It hasn't become a struggle until we got to improper fractions, mixed numbers, reducing. I have found that taking it a little slower for him has made it easier and working at a pace that he is more comfortable with made him fell less stressed about it and less overwhelmed and less panicked that he wasn't going to understand it all. Now that we have completed it all, he goes through those problems with ease and no struggles at all.
Math for every learning style
Review by JoyfulMommy
Our family has been using Math Lessons for A Living Education since our oldest was in first grade. It has been perfect for our family as it works for all different learning styles - from our artistic and nature-loving ones to more logical thinkers. The story line keeps their interest and brings math applications to life, while reinforcing godly character and worship of the Creator.

This series is designed to be developmentally appropriate, so you will see lighter work loads that build with each level (and graduates of this series are well-prepared for Principles of Mathematics). If we need extra practice with a concept, we pull in some pages from Practice Makes Perfect and the various activities help to reinforce what we are learning. Practice Makes Perfect has also been helpful to keep math skills sharp through the summer!

The only thing I wish were different is math facts memory work. I feel like the facts are introduced in kind of random order, and while there are a lot of prompts to review, it is easy to skip over them since it is not actually written into the curriculum. Obviously that responsibility falls on the teacher, but it would be helpful to have it more thoroughly incorporated. Overall though, I love this series and wish it had been around when I was a child!
Starts the transition to higher math levels
Review by BuildingontheRock
Level 5 is the last level of MB math that follows the pattern of one lesson, 5 exercises per week. The first six weeks are review of the concepts covered in level 4. Weeks 7-30 flush out new concepts. The final 6 lessons review the new concepts for this level and could be optionally used over the summer to keep the concepts fresh. New concepts that are covered include: division with 2-digit divisors and building on the fraction concepts that were learned in level 4 by working with fractions with uncommon denominators in a variety of ways. Multiplying fractions is reviewed and dividing fractions is introduced, including more work with decimals. Factors are taught. A manipulative section is included at the back of the book as well as solutions. The story of the Stevens’ family continues at the beginning of each lesson. Overall the curriculum is less colorful with less visuals, helping to transition the child to the higher levels of math. For an older child who is right at level 5 this may not be a problem. However for a younger child who is working ahead in math, they may still appreciate seeing more color and visuals.
Excellent

Complete but not overwhelming
Review by SB
Our family has really enjoyed the Math Lessons for a Living Education curriculum, and level 5 is no different. The weekly stories add interest and introduce math topics in a practical way. The lessons are short enough to not be overwhelming. The spiral approach ensures that topics are reviewed often. We appreciate the way that math is taught from a Biblical worldview.

Math lessons level 5
Review by BoyMama3
I got this book for my oldest who is in 6th but has yet to get some basic math concepts like division. Based on the short lessons that could be added to his main course to help him advance hopefully quickly. He likes the lessons so far and is looking forward to the next level when we order for our next yr of lessons.

Worked well for us until level 5
Review by Stacey
My daughter has only ever done this math program. It has worked really well for her and she got good scores on her state testing. But when she got to level 5, she started to struggle. She has always done her math 99% independently but she began to struggle and as I was dealing with another child’s health issues, I let her switch to Teaching Textbooks. I’m not saying I like it better, it has just been what worked for us during this season. I have always loved these bath books though and the way God is integrated even into the subject of math!
