Just what exactly is social studies, you may ask? Well, it includes the study of all kinds of people and places, some far away and some next door. In this book we talk about families, like your family in your house, and also lots of people close by, which we call a town or city, and finally about even more people in cities or outside of cities, all living in big places called countries.

Level one begins with children in their homes, helping them think about their lives from their immediate families and beyond, as well as learning about local governments. Includes four quests.

This is a daily adventure-based curriculum series that encourages families to explore the world together through four, nine-week quests and to understand it better from God’s perspective. It is designed with elements that make weekly learning fun and interactive, including:

  • Activity time
  • Word find time
  • Review time
  • My story journal

Learn all about the world while you discover more about your own. And make sure you pull out your Quest Collector Cards at the beginning of each quest. Your world map on the other side shows where you are in each lesson!

What Your First Grader Needs to Know
What Your First Grader Needs to Know

Homeschooling a first grade student is fun and exciting because children are naturally inquisitive and curious at this age, eager to develop their skills and learn about the world around them. But what exactly does a first grader need to know? Carrie Lindquist, homeschool mom of 3 and Master Books curriculum author, is here to walk you through the skills your student will be developing during this foundational year.

we love it!
Review by Raven
We are fairly new homeschoolers (2 years) but Master Books has made it very easy! My daughter loves the colorful pages and the ever presence of the Lord in each lesson. The lessons are quick but informative!
Love it!

My daughter loves it. Quick easy lessons, filled with information. The "talk times" really get her talking and asking questions.
My kids like it!
Review by Sarah
This book keeps my kids engaged and I love that it can be taught to multiple grade levels. It is open and go like everything we have used from Masterbooks which is essential for me. I would recommend this to others looking for a beginner Social Studies book.
Not what I was hoping
Review by Meagan
I loved all of the other masterbook subjects we used for 1st grade. However, this history book just isn’t what I was hoping for. It seemed to be kind of all over the place. We ended up giving up on it almost halfway through the year because it just wasn’t easy to teach and wasn’t holding my child’s attention. I don’t feel like we really learned anything from this one unfortunately.
Not my favorite, but she still enjoyed it.
Review by Rhoda
We did this with my 6 year old. We didn't do the quests since the information and the writing required seemed to advanced for her. We enjoyed the stories and exploring the different countries but some weeks felt like too much was being crammed into one week.
Not my favorite
Review by Mallory
We love math and language arts from Master Books, but when we started My Story 1, it was a bit lack-luster for us. We actually ended up stopping it and planned to try it again later, thinking maybe my child was too young for it. But we never did go back to it.
My Story is a great start to social studies for young students
Review by Catherine
I started My Story 1 with my daughter in second grade and now working through My Story 2 in 3rd grade. I feel like it is right at her level of understanding for social studies and new knowledge for geography. I recommend this text for young elementary students.
Great social studies curriculum!
Review by Averi
My daughter is loving this book this year. It’s opened up the world to her more to make her see how there’s different languages and cultures outside of our own.
My favorite lesson so far this year was on how other countries don’t always have access to water, and practicing trying to walk carrying a bucket of water outdoors made for a fun, but poignant less on how blessed we are, and how we need to be thankful for what we have.
Daughter's Favorite
Review by Malena
My Story 1 is an engaging social studies curriculum. Our daughter loves this series! She loved the word searches, coloring pictures, learning Spanish and French just to name a few. There are beautiful photographs used. She was excited the series continues with My Story 2.
Love It!
