Just what exactly is social studies, you may ask? Well, it includes the study of all kinds of people and places, some far away and some next door. In this book we talk about families, like your family in your house, and also lots of people close by, which we call a town or city, and finally about even more people in cities or outside of cities, all living in big places called countries.

Level one begins with children in their homes, helping them think about their lives from their immediate families and beyond, as well as learning about local governments. Includes four quests.

This is a daily adventure-based curriculum series that encourages families to explore the world together through four, nine-week quests and to understand it better from God’s perspective. It is designed with elements that make weekly learning fun and interactive, including:

  • Activity time
  • Word find time
  • Review time
  • My story journal

Learn all about the world while you discover more about your own. And make sure you pull out your Quest Collector Cards at the beginning of each quest. Your world map on the other side shows where you are in each lesson!

What Your First Grader Needs to Know

Homeschooling a first grade student is fun and exciting because children are naturally inquisitive and curious at this age, eager to develop their skills and learn about the world around them. But what exactly does a first grader need to know? Carrie Lindquist, homeschool mom of 3 and Master Books curriculum author, is here to walk you through the skills your student will be developing during this foundational year.

Another great option.
Review by Jessica
My 1st grader really enjoyed this history book. She loved learning all about the state that she lives in, transportation and her family tree.
My child begged to do this!
Review by Amy
My child thoroughly enjoyed My Story. She retained more than I expected and got a lot out of it! It was very fun and the pictures were bright and fun to look at! If I tried to skip it for a day if we were short on time she would beg me to still do it!
Sweet

This book offers a God-centered introduction to social studies and it starts right in the home. My son loves the fun activities and lots of opportunities for us to color together.
Wonderful introduction to social studies
Review by Lunelle
My daughter and I really enjoyed this course. It was fun to learn about different cultures and countries, but also to practically see how God fits into everything.
Sure is a Trip!
Review by Colette
We love the adventure around the world. We loved the format of learning about a different country every chapter and different modes of transportation. Writing down the key words in each chapter was helpful for her for her writing skills, but was time consuming. We love the new language words each chapter and the “helpers” in communities. It definitely helped my daughter understand geography more.

This book was ok and I know many love this one. However we had a hard time with it and didn't finish it. We had a hard time getting into it and my son wasn't excited with it. Math and Language Arts are our top favorite with Master Books.
we love it!
Review by Raven
We are fairly new homeschoolers (2 years) but Master Books has made it very easy! My daughter loves the colorful pages and the ever presence of the Lord in each lesson. The lessons are quick but informative!
Love it!

My daughter loves it. Quick easy lessons, filled with information. The "talk times" really get her talking and asking questions.
My kids like it!

This book keeps my kids engaged and I love that it can be taught to multiple grade levels. It is open and go like everything we have used from Masterbooks which is essential for me. I would recommend this to others looking for a beginner Social Studies book.
Not what I was hoping
Review by Meagan
I loved all of the other masterbook subjects we used for 1st grade. However, this history book just isn’t what I was hoping for. It seemed to be kind of all over the place. We ended up giving up on it almost halfway through the year because it just wasn’t easy to teach and wasn’t holding my child’s attention. I don’t feel like we really learned anything from this one unfortunately.
