What is boldness? How does someone show initiative? What does it mean to be wise, tolerant, or sensitive? When it comes to understanding and developing character traits, biographical stories are a powerful tool.

Powerful not only because they so effectively illustrate virtues but also because your young reader doesn't feel preached at.  The 10 stories in Profiles of Integrity Vol. 2 are engrossing!

  • Instead of being told, "You should be truthful," they will read about Sacagawea who accurately translated and reported facts during the Corps of Discovery expedition, even leading them through the Rocky Mountains on their return journey.
  • Instead of hearing that gentleness is an attractive virtue, they get consumed with the story of President Abraham Lincoln who showed compassion to a young, dying Confederate soldier, comforting him and praying with him despite their opposing sides.
  • Instead of being admonished to be more orderly, they see how Colonel Charles Marshall's meticulous record-keeping ensured that the surrender terms at Appomattox Court House were accurately drafted, playing a vital role in officially ending the Civil War.

Packed with adventure, danger, and real historical drama, these books keep your students turning pages as they devour tales of daring raids, clever ingenuity, sacrificial love, and harrowing battles.

Ten Key Virtues

In ten biographical sketches, see how a figure from American or British history demonstrates a key virtue.

  1. Boldness ~ Captain John S. Mosby
  2. Gentleness ~ President Abraham Lincoln
  3. Initiative ~ Colonel John Hunt Morgan
  4. Orderliness ~ Colonel Charles Marshall
  5. Respectfulness ~ Francis Scott Key
  6. Sensitivity ~ General Robert E. Lee
  7. Tolerance ~ William Booth
  8. Truthfulness ~ Sacagawea
  9. Virtue ~ Queen Victoria
  10. Wisdom ~ Matthew Fontaine Maury

Relatable Emotions & Challenges
Each sketch puts readers in the shoes of people or those facing tough situations — death, hostility, natural threats, and breakthroughs. Kids see themselves in these moments, not just as passive learners but as participants in the story.

Unexpected Heroes
Not all the heroes are famous or powerful. Some are teens, outsiders, or people who overcame huge obstacles. This makes the stories feel accessible and inspiring to kids who might not see themselves as perfect role models.

Interactive Questions
Each chapter ends with questions that invite readers to imagine themselves in the story, reflect on choices, and think about what they’d do. This reflection turns reading into a personal adventure, not just a history lesson.

Book Format

While the stories are ordered chronologically, each chapter can stand alone if desired. Each biographical sketch will take approximately 30 minutes to read aloud.

Each chapter is introduced with a definition of the virtue demonstrated and a relevant Bible memory verse. At the close of each story, comprehension questions help check for understanding while application questions foster discussion to bring the virtues into modern life.

Read this volume and the entire four-book series to fall in love with history, find heroes to emulate, and develop godly character.

Helpful history supplement
Review by Stephanie
Profiles of Integrity Vol. 2 contains 10 stories of men and women from the years 1804-1865, covering westward expansion, the War of 1812, the American Civil War, and the Victorian era of England. Each story focuses on a character trait such as respectfulness, boldness, orderliness, etc. The audiobook version of these books is great because most of the stories are 7-10 minutes long and it is easy to listen to one story as we run errands. I like that we can listen to a story from the same period of history that we are studying, but also can focus on building character. The Principles of Integrity series is a helpful history supplement!
History That Teaches Integrity and Courage
Review by Kathleen C
The audio version of Profiles of Integrity Volume 2 has been just as impactful for our homeschool as the print version—if not more so in some ways. It really brought the stories to life and made it easy for my kids to stay engaged, especially when we used it during car rides or quiet time in the day.

This volume goes deeper into fascinating moments from westward expansion, the Civil War era, and beyond, and the narration helped those historical events feel vivid and real. The character traits—like boldness, gentleness, and wisdom—came through clearly in each story and gave my kids a lot to think about.

We used it both as a history supplement and a character study, just like the book, and it worked beautifully in both roles. The audio format made it very accessible, and it consistently held my kids’ attention from start to finish.
Engaging and Rich in Content
Review by Santina
Profiles of Integrity Volume two covers the years 1804-1865 in chronological order. The stories begin with the definition of a virtue (truthfulness, respectfulness, virtue, wisdom, initiative, gentleness, boldness, sensitivity, tolerance, and orderliness) and ends with thoughtful questions to promote family discussion. This would be great for car rides and a method to teach children virtues in story form. Will Stauff is very engaging and the stories are rich in content!
Great as an audiobook option!
Review by Becky V.
We have really enjoyed listening to Profiles of Integrity, Vol. 2 as an audiobook. This format works so well for us, and it makes it very easy to fit into our day. Especially when we are on the go!

It covers the years 1804 to 1865 through ten short stories, highlighting figures like Sacagawea, President Abraham Lincoln, William Booth, and others from the time during the westward expansion, the War of 1812, the American Civil War era, and the Victorian Era of England. What I like most is the focus on character. Each story begins by defining the specific character trait and includes a related memory verse, which gives it a clear purpose beyond just telling history. It is definitely geared more toward the middle school age level and up.

The narration is very straightforward. It feels more like someone just reading to you versus a personal story-driven performance. It may not pull you emotionally, but it keeps things clear and easy to follow. The narrator’s voice was very easy to understand. I did notice some mispronunciations in this volume.

At the end of each story, there are questions included in the audio, which helps with reflection and makes it more than just passive listening. Be ready to hit pause quickly to discuss each question with your kids!

Overall, it is a meaningful and easy way to add both history and character study with a biblical perspective into your routine, especially if you enjoy audiobooks and want something simple to use.
Great Audio Series
Review by Rachel
This entire series is such a great addition to your history studies. I also think these could be enjoyed on their own. I love how each of these volumes include both well known and lesser known people. I also like the focus on the different character trait that each individual is displaying. I appreciate the audio book aspect because its is especially helpful in our home with a struggling reader. It allows him to use, experience and enjoy books on his age level even if he can’t fully read it on level yet. There are lots of students and families alike that will enjoy and benefit from each volume of this series!
Short and Engaging
Review by Dawn P
The profiles of integrity series is a set of books that contain short stories about various male and female historical figures that help teach character traits. Each story is about 5-10 minutes long and starts with the definition of the character trait and a related Bible verse. These are great for casual listening or for accompanying your history studies.
Inspiring Stories
Review by Dustie
This book series is great! My junior high daughter is enjoying these audio books. It has given her an opportunity to listen while she crafts. She particularly enjoyed that each story highlighted a specific godly character trait that made her think deeper about what it means to demonstrate each trait. She also liked that she was familiar with some of the individuals, but others were new to her. The inspiring stories of brave people throughout history, who were willing to stand up for others, protect others, and serve the LORD regardless of their safety are those that need to be read by every generation.
As a parent, I appreciate that I can give her clean, character-building books to read (or listen to, in this case). I love that these are available as audio books, as they provide an option for listening while being creative. The definition of each trait, as well as a scripture reference are included at the beginning of each section, which I think is a worthy addition. The questions on each section are great to ensure comprehension of the material.
I recommend this series as a compliment to World’s Story. It reinforces that the stories of individual people are important in history.
Great for on the go discussion opportunities
Review by Charity
Profiles of Integrity Volume 2 contains many sobering stories of courageous acts of selflessness. I was challenged as I saw the different facets of a life of integrity displayed in the lives of these men and women through the engaging accounts included in this volume. I was especially touched by the conversation between Robert E. Lee and the wounded soldier. These stories are sure to inspire conversations with parents and students about the importance of allowing God to form godly traits in their lives so that they can serve him well, even in less than ideal circumstances.

This series is aimed at older students and some of the volumes may be too intense for younger students. This particular volume seems a bit less intense overall with the exception of one or two stories that include accounts of men wounded in battle.

The audio version of this is convenient for listening to and discussing together around the dinner table or on the go. I do wish that the narrator was more engaging.
Engaging
Review by Samantha
This audiobook continues with engaging true stories that emphasize courage, faith, and strong character. It encourages listeners to stand firm in their convictions and shows how integrity shapes lives and influences others for good.
