About the Authors

Back to the Foundation
Review by BuildingontheRock
In this fourth volume of Profiles of Valor, Mrs. Boyer reminds her readers of the sacredness that early leaders and founders of our nation held God's Word with and their condition that those who live in our nation must hold to it as well for the nation to continue on.Their morals and character were based upon it. Book 4 demonstrates some of these characteristics as it records men and women who participated in pivotal moments of the Revolutionary War and brought about many great turns of events in the quest for our nation’s freedom. They then used God’s Word as the foundation for our country’s guiding documents (the Constitution and the Bill of Rights) as the federal government was formed in the following years. I found particularly interesting the chapter on Thomas Jefferson and his relationship with the Word of God, particularly the words of Jesus Christ. Notable quote by Alexis de Toqueville: “America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.” p. 124 Hopefully readers will be challenged to get back to the Word of God as the basis for life and morals. Geared for middle and high schoolers. This reader will be particularly meaningful to those studying the founding documents of the United States.
Helpful American History Resource
Review by SB
I really like how the Profiles of Valor series combines character study with American History. The fourth book covers the time period of January 1781 – February 1832 and focuses on 10 different character traits and 10 different men and women. Each chapter begins by naming and defining a character trait and then giving a scripture verse to memorize. The stories are not too lengthy and include black and white pictures. Each chapter ends with questions to answer. This series is recommended for grades 7 and up. What a great resource when studying American History!
An enjoyable history add-on
Review by MICHELLE
Profiles of Valor Volume 4 rounds out the series by continuing to present strong examples of faith-filled lives marked by courage and conviction. The stories highlight how regular people can make a lasting impact when they choose to follow God faithfully.

The tone is encouraging without being overwhelming, making it suitable for younger readers while still meaningful for older elementary students. We found this volume great for sparking conversations about responsibility, service, and standing for truth.

This book is a solid resource for families looking to reinforce biblical character traits through real-life historical examples rooted in Christian faith. I can honestly recommend getting the whole series. While each book is useful by itself and sparks lovely conversation and reflection they compliment each other and I would struggle to pick a favourite.
Truly uplifting

This book has stories that highlight bravery, conviction, and the power of unwavering faith. Marilyn Boyer once again brings history to life with warmth and clarity, making each character memorable and relatable. This fourth volume continues the series’ legacy of pointing readers toward godly virtues through real-life examples. A truly uplifting and worthwhile read.
Loved the whole series!
Review by Marle
Volume 4 was just as enjoyable as the rest of the series. I loved the consistent layout—starting with a word that describes each person, followed by a memory verse and a closing quote. The questions at the end are well thought out and make it easy to check real reading comprehension. This volume also highlights a meaningful mix of people, including women and enslaved individuals who contributed to American history. A lovely and valuable addition to our history studies.
Lovely addition!
Review by Marle
It is a really engaging read that brings the stories of Revolutionary War heroes to life with rich, visual language. Each chapter gives you a clear sense of who these men were, why they made the choices they did, and how the people around them shaped their battles. The mix of vivid descriptions, direct quotes, and a memory verse in each section makes the history feel personal and meaningful without being heavy. It’s a surprisingly inspiring, easy-to-read look at character in action.
