Five Tips for Teaching American History Through a Christian Lens
Five Tips for Teaching American History Through a Christian Lens

For Christian homeschool families, teaching American history is more than memorizing facts; it's about helping children see God's hand at work, understanding the truth of our nation's story, and growing in faith and character. Master Books’ approach to U.S. history is intentionally different: it fosters wonder, honesty, and hope, guiding students to recognize both the beauty and the brokenness of America’s past while anchoring every lesson in a biblical worldview.

Great brief stories of historical heroes
Review by Andi
This set is a great set for short snippets of a wide variety of historical heroes. From presidents, spies, war heroes, scientists, animals and women. It covers a wide variety, and the stories are nice and short and easy to digest. My kids enjoyed listening to the stories and discussing the people and how different it is now. The books are all nice individually but having the option of a box set is really nice to keep it stored and have it all together. Reading level in my opinion is proficient reader. No need to go in order, they can be read in whatever order seems fun to the kids. There is also included vocabulary/explanations in the books which I found as a really nice addition. Overall a great set.
Artwork matters
Review by June
The artwork can be previewed in the sample pages, its a big disappointment. Photos should be there to help paint the picture especially for younger readers, these look like a bad mix of clip art and AI garbage. Especially disappointing for my child who loves to draw and enjoys seeing realistic looking artwork in history books. These cartooney drawings challenge the content in the sense it is true history, but with nonsensical images cause it to appear like a less-than story book. Please consider using real artwork and not AI generated images as they truly appear ridiculous and are a hindrance to our childrens development. It also causes us to lose trust in a publisher who is cutting corners like this. Very poor use of AI, we will not be purchasing but will be praying the artwork be reconfigured in a reprint.
Books about remarkable men and women
Review by Samantha
An absolute treasure for families who love bringing history to life. Each book introduces readers to remarkable men and women whose courage, faith, and perseverance shaped the world. The stories are engaging, inspiring, and perfectly written to capture a child’s attention while teaching meaningful character lessons. It beautifully combines history with virtue, showing students that ordinary people can live extraordinary lives when they follow truth and conviction. This set is a wonderful way to spark curiosity about the past while encouraging strong character in the next generation.
Great introduction to historical heroes
Review by Charity
We are really enjoying using many of the books from this series as we go through the America at 250 Faith and Freedom series. All of my children from ages 3.5 -nearly 11 have enjoyed everything I have let them listen to so far. (We like to use the audiobook version but we frequently reference our box set as we listen). I do agree with others that the art could be better but honestly it's not much worse than what I've seen of other stock images used by other publishers. It just gives it more of a textbook feel which could be off putting to some. The content though is very good and we have learned so much more about the founding of our country as we have been reading. I think the book on spies is one of our top favorites but my children are really enjoying the American Statesmen as well. My 3-year-old goes around shouting, "give me liberty or give me death". Thank you Master Books for publishing this resource to help introduce our children to important people throughout history from a biblical worldview.
Content is fantastic, AI photos are HORRIFIC
Review by AI Is NO
If the information weren't so amazing, this would be a 1 or no star review. The AI generated photos are just awful. They are honestly scary and just look cheap. NOT the quality we are used to from MasterBooks, I'm kicking myself for not reading these reviews before dropping all the money we did on this set.....so very disappointed. The quality of the books themselves also feel really cheap, again not what we are used to from MB. VERY thin and flimsy. But the bigger issue is for sure the terrible AI. Don't waste your money....
Not a fan of AI images
Review by Charlotteak
I only have part of the box set. I purchased to use along with America's Story next school year. I was disappointed to see all the AI images. I love the other Masterbooks resources and will continue to use them. I'm not sure if I'll buy the rest of these books though.
My kids have enjoyed them.
Review by AJ
My daughters, age 10 and 11, have enjoyed reading these books, even on their own time. It's always helpful to have safe reading material for their age!
Creepy
Review by HappyMama
I guess the stories might be good and inspiring… but now I don’t even trust that they were actually authored by a human.
I was flipping through these books with my kids and felt so creeped out which is odd for masterbooks. Then I realized that the pictures were ALL AI!!! Seriously? You couldn’t do the research and gather photo credits of the actual people or animals you’re talking about or work with an illustrator? Could you actually take the time and write it yourselves?
And they were all in completely different styles. It looks horrible and is hard to even look at!
I wish I read the reviews first before purchasing. I’m very disappointed. Definitely not worth what I paid. I kind of think they owe everyone who purchased these a refund because this seems like plagiarism… taking someone else work and passing it off as your own only in this case. At least it’s acknowledged at the front it the book. But they say a picture is worth a thousand words… so these books are quite the steaming pile…
So sad that I’ll have to check a great company like Masterbooks for this kind of laziness.

Editor's Note: We prohibit authors from using AI to write content. We even check for that in manuscripts. We do use AI for illustrations through a legitimate and reputable stock art platform. Master Books puts credit for using AI in images, so we are upfront in all of our books.
We all adore these!
Review by HK
This book, and the whole series, has been absolutely amazing! Just a tiny snippet on the life of each animal or person. But it's a wonderful overview for all ages & an excellent jumping off point if you want to delve deeper into someone specifically. Perfect addition to our history/read aloud time. My 8 & 11 year old boys just grab them off the shelf and read them whenever they want.
As far as the illustrations, I think they are clear & lovely & not distracting from the words whatsoever. We are so, so pleased to have this set on our book shelf!
Waste of money
Review by AI garbage
I was so disappointed to receive these books and realize all the photos are ai generated! They’re not even good pictures. It’s my fault for not thoroughly vetting the books before I bought them, but normally Masterbooks produces such rich material. The photos are literally garbage; the same style is not used throughout the books, it’s a smorgasbord. I was expecting historic artwork or possibly a recent artist to produce material for the book. Don’t waste your money on these.
