Overview

For Grade Level 9-12

As long as Christian liberal arts programs fail to engage the challenges to Christianity in the battle of ideas, they play a part in the continuing decline of the faith in the Western world. It is extremely dangerous to accept the “great” thinkers and writers uncritically, whether it be Karl Marx, Ralph Waldo Emerson, or Nathaniel Hawthorne. The great thinkers and the liberal arts programs have influenced millions of young people to abandon the Christian faith over the centuries.

Every Christian student should be familiar with the ideas and the writings that have formed the modern world and that subsequently undermined the Christian foundations in the West. However, young people must also be well-versed and well-equipped to engage in the battle of worldviews before they graduate from high school or college. That is why this curriculum is so desperately needed.

This course presents a basic survey and a critical analysis of the philosophers, the literary masters, and the cultural influencers of the last 300 years for the Christian student. In contrast with other literature courses, this text is filled with relevant biblical references and truths that will equip the student to address the false worldviews contained in the “great” humanist works of this era.

A bit depressing
Review by Echo
Great information, lots to think about, but definitely a downer if you appreciate and love classic literature
Wonderful high school course
Review by Kathleen
Student Book:
This book introduces students to the thinkers, writers, and ideas that formed our modern world. Much of this comes from non-Bible-believing men. This course will help to equip students to understand the lay of the land on the battlefield in the war of the worldviews. The author describes the personal lives and characters of the great philosophers and challenges students to read short portions of their writing. This course will teach the student to properly address the material from a distinctively biblical viewpoint. As the author states “Christians belong in the battle of ideas but we must do battle!” I highly recommend this course for any high school student to equip them to battle worldviews.

Teacher Guide:
This course teaches students to approach false, non-Christian worldviews with a critical eye. Through this course, students will be able to equip themselves with Christian doctrines to help defend their faith in the real world. The suggested weekly schedule has easy-to-manage lessons that guide the reading, worksheets, and all assessments. I especially like how this is scheduled for 3 days a week. It gives the student time to dig deeper into any area that they want. I recommend this book to go along with the Worldviews in Conflict student textbook.
A must for Christian high schoolers!
Review by Jennifer
I truly cannot say enough good about this course. My 8th and 10th grade boys both chose this for an elective this year. I was initially concerned it would be too much for the younger, but he has enjoyed it as much as his older brother and they have both learned so much. My husband and I have been happily surprised at some of the conversations we've heard the boys having, inspired by what they've been learning from this course. A must study for Christian homeschoolers before graduation in my opinion!
Wow
Review by Julie
This is a very heavy course. That is not meant in a negative way. It is full of information and would be great to add to any library to be studied over and over. There is so much to glean from it. If using it as a curriculum, I would suggest it be for 11th or 12th graders. There is a lot of reading and writing. This is one book I will for sure keep in my library long after the kids are out of school.
Packed with lots of info!
Review by Jessica
I'd planned to read through this to help me become more grounded in my faith, but it didn't take long to catch my interest and then to pull my daughter in as well. It is packed with insights into the impact humanism has had on our Christian faith. There have been some challenging spots, but overall this text has been great! It has also led us off on a couple of rabbit trails as we came across information that one or the other of us was curious to learn more about. This is a must for any Christian student heading into our secular world.
A must have course

World Views Conflict
What is more important than understanding world views? I don’t know that there are many more important things. Our world view is the lens through which we view the world, it is how we determine our actions, attitudes and thoughts. Our world view is essential to our processing the world around us. Our world view shape our perceptions and beliefs.
It is for this reason that I was excited to see this course. In this course the student will study the world views of some of the greatest thinkers and most influential writers, Scientists and theologians. This is about the doctrine that shapes our lives – because we all have doctrines by which we shape all other opinions. And these doctrines are not limited to our religious upbringing. But even so, it is a sad statement of today’s society that the majority of Christians have not studied the founding father’s of their faith. They have not dared to delve into old and ancient writings and thoughts. They have not questioned, understood and adapted the views for themselves.
Challenge your student to explore why they believe what they believe and how those beliefs shape their lives and thoughts.
I would highly recommend this course for all high school students.
Learn about the world without immersing in it
Review by JC
I find this to be a thoughtful and thought-provoking curriculum that will be vital for teaching my children how to understand and beware of the world from a Christian perspective. Its axiomatic starting point is the objective truth and objective morality of the Living God, as guided by the Scriptures He has given us. I really appreciate being able to find such a well informed resource: one that I can trust, to teach my children (when they reach the appropriate age) about the culture around them, from a safe distance, without them having to immerse in it. So rare, even amongst Christian curricula... And so appreciated.
Excellent and Timely Topic
Review by Candice
This is a much needed topic to cover today among Christian families. It always has been a big topic, but the need for it lately just feels very great and pertinent. It's a good way to bring up great conversations!
A Must-Have High School Resource!
Review by Cristina, A Homeschool Mom
I can't imagine a more well thought out guide to worldview for high school students. Through use of engaging topics, use of classic literature and modern media, Worldview in Conflict is exceptional in every way. I know we'll be using this curriculum in order to better prepare our students for the world in which we live.
Challenging
Review by Nicole
My daughter is a senior and this material is challenging for her. It is very informative and a wealth of information. I would not use this if your child is not super interested in reading because this course is very in depth and might be too difficult or time consuming if there are too many reading intensive courses being taken.
