Yes, your child gets plenty of practice forming and connecting letters.     A Christian worldview permeates this practice workbook. Your child will copy scripture passages, read the examples of American heroes who followed God’s lead, and repeatedly see themes of prayer and Christian faith.

    More Than a Handwriting Workbook

    Each lesson pairs copy work with physical exercises that build the strength and coordination the body needs for confident, lasting penmanship. Your child will copy some of the most important words in our nation's history alongside fun exercises like popping bubble wrap, wringing a wet cloth, doing superman holds, using tongs, and more. These aren't filler activities. They build the gross and fine motor skills that make fluent cursive possible.

    How It Works: Simple, Flexible, Open-and-Go

    With Write Like a Patriot , you’ll spend just 30 minutes per day twice a week to give your child the necessary practice and skill development for beautiful cursive handwriting. Follow the clearly laid out 36-week schedule or opt for the accelerated one-semester pace, also included.

    Check the supply list for any household object you may need week by week: a stapler, a washcloth, playdough, etc. An Answer Key provides solutions to the mazes and matching activities along with grading suggestions.

    It’s fully open-and-go and all-in-one. Your child writes directly in the workbook where all directions for the parent are also included.

    Write Like a Patriot assumes a mastery of print manuscript and a basic understanding of how to form cursive letters. Missing either foundation? Start with Handwriting: A to Zoo for print writing and then progress to Catch on to Cursive before starting Write Like a Patriot .     Other prerequisites are the ability to read simple sentences, pencil control, and good posture.

    We are using this for additional practice since complete catch on to cursive. It has the same great whole child approach with exercises to increase hand strength. We love that the lessons are short and my son is easily able to complete them without getting tired of writing. We’re using this along with America 250 and love the theme based writing. We highly recommend this for extra cursive practice!

    Fun Way to Practice

    If you liked Catch on to Cursive, then this is a good follow up practice book. There are strength building activities and writing practice, but it's light enough to not be overkill. Most kids are already writing in other subjects quite a bit, so once they know how to form the letters, a little focused practice each week should be enough for most kids. The theme is also fun, especially if used alongside America's Story. I hope they come out with more themes for these practice books, maybe a science one, or artists and composers.

    My youngest child normally doesn't enjoy handwriting, but she really liked this workbook. We had to pause using Write Like a Patriot for the summer break, but we plan to continue using it as a supplemental cursive workbook during her 4th-grade year.
    I appreciate the short lessons, which make it easy to fit cursive practice into our busy schedule. I also like that children copy meaningful passages that can provide valuable lessons and inspiration in the future.
    This book is a great way to introduce children to positive values while helping them practice and improve their cursive skills. However, I would not recommend it as a beginner's cursive course. In my opinion, it is best suited as a continuation program for children who have already completed a primary cursive curriculum.

    Our family really loves so much about this penmanship curriculum! We have done various masterbooks penmanship curriculums and have enjoyed each one, but there is something special about this patriotic course! I currently have a 3rd grader who just finished the cursive scripture penmanship practice book and will be doing this one next. We are also going to be starting America’s Story level 2 in the new year so this is going to tie in so well! The book is broken up into units such as: faith of the signers, prayers that shaped America, First Ladies and so on where there is a small reading excerpt, an exercise, a warm up and then they write something relevant to the unit. I love the wonderful tie ins, the fun facts at the end of the lessons and the coloring that keeps it light and fun. I think this cursive practice is perfect for child with cursive under their belt and America in their heart!

    This is exactly what I was looking for after finishing up Catch on to Cursive, also by Master Books. I love that my son can continue to practice his cursive while also learning more about America’s history and the men and women who greatly impacted it.

    The text is super flexible - you can either do two days a week over 36 weeks, or four days a week over 18 weeks. I find that twice a week is our sweet spot. Each lesson contains a short passage to read, exercises to help further develop fine motor skills, a fun warm-up activity, a selection to copy in cursive, a get creative activity, and fun facts that relate to the passage. It really does not take long, but it gets the job done in a fun and interactive way!

    One note for those who purchase the PDF to print - we prefer to print in color, but it does use up a lot of ink due to the blue star line down the side of each page!

    I absolutely love this writing curriculum! It reminds me of Catch on to Cursive with the warm up activities in each lesson that help with fine motor skills and building strength for stamina in writing. This course is especially perfect to do alongside an American History course. The facts and the people surrounding our country’s heritage just adds more depth to the subject. Not only is the student being able to practice their cursive but they are writing quotes from Presidents, our founding documents, and so many more. I also love how the student gets to write letters on old parchment paper. I highly recommend this course especially for any child who wants to practice their cursive writing alongside learning more about Our Country!

    The newest cursive course from Master Books, Write Like a Patriot is an engaging, non overwhelming way to continue cursive practice, developing comfortability. The pages are easy to look at. A large font is used and only 2-3 sentence paragraphs do not overwhelm the reader. The red, white, and blue color scheme emphasizes the patriotic theme. This is a fun course that incorporates influential figures and aspects of the founding of our nation that neatly corresponds with America’s Story, For You They Signed, America at 250, the What a Character! series, or any other American history course for grades 3 or 4 and up (or for those who have gone through Catch on to Cursive). Each unit focuses on a different historical aspect of our nation and its founders: the faith of the signers, founding documents, influential prayers, presidents, first ladies, various great Americans, influential preachers, and finally military and patriotic songs. This break down can be found in the Course Information pages, as it is not included in the Scope and Sequence. Historical context for each quote is provided through a brief explanation and fun facts. Hand strengthening exercises are incorporated with a variety of engaging activities. Blank lines provide room for copying the quotation - an example in cursive is written above for easy reference. This is not a tracing cursive book but a transition to forming cursive letters via copy work on one’s own (minimal tracing is incorporated in the extra activities or to show where to start the copy work on the provided lines). Simple exercises and warm ups provide a way for each child to strengthen their bodies and hands for the writing process. This course can be completed over the course of a year at two days per week or in one semester with an alternative schedule provided at the back. I love the units including quotes from first ladies as well as the military songs for each division of the US military and am excited to use this alongside For You They Signed with my kids.

    Finally! The book we have all been waiting for- well, all of us who have done the Catch on to Cursive at least. This is the perfect book to continue cursive practice. With all the hands on/strengthening exercises that we enjoyed so much, expanded on and added to.

    At just two days a week, this feels very doable. The lessons are not overly long either. I like that it has an added bonus of American history to it, as so many kids are also doing that around this age.
    It says for 4th grade but can easily be used by a bit older child if they started learning cursive later or just need a refresher. Sometimes it nice to have something fun yet educational as our children get older, so this book will do nicely for upper elementary and maybe even early middle school children.
    Fun way to practice cursive and learn more about America's history

    I love that my kids can work on their cursive handwriting while enriching their study of American history. Write Like a Patriot does not teach cursive letter formation but provides a fun way for students to practice cursive writing while learning more about America’s history - all from a Biblical worldview. The course is designed to be worked on two days/week for 36 weeks or 4 days/week for 18 weeks. Each exercise gives information about someone or something related to American history, an exercise that helps strengthen their body, a warm-up activity, a scripture to read, a quote or selection to write, a creative activity to complete such as a maze or drawing, and fun facts about the individual or topic introduced at the beginning of the lesson. This book provides a well-rounded way to learn more about America and improve cursive writing skills.
    Great cursive practice

    This is a great book to follow Catch on to Cursive. There are many hand building exercises like in Catch on to Cursive, but no instruction for letter formation. This is a great next step after learning cursive to continue on.
    The different hand building exercises include gripping activities, playdough, and tracing/drawing activities. After a hand building activity is a quote to copy in cursive. Each day is on a single double sided page, making it easy to add to any system the student is using.
    The students are copying not only famous quotes from our forefathers, but also from many other through American history (see book description). Some of the quotes are long so only part is copied though more of the quote is provided. There are also some song lyrics from songs as well.
    There is a suggested schedule for one year, or one semester.
    I like how the students are suggested to write a prayer (in cursive) for our country.
    This course works great while also studying any point of American History. My son also loves copying all the quotes.
    As an e-book, there is a lot of color. Though it is not color dependent for the copywork, some activities work better in color than b&w.
