Mostly good
Review by El
Most of this book is very good and helpful for my daughter to develop her writing skills, but there were a few days where I didn't see the relevance of writing. At least she is learning different, out of the box, ways of writing in those lessons though! Overall, I'm glad to purchase it!
Would Recommend!
Review by Kristy
My son enjoys the shorter lessons. He's not big on writing, but enjoys writing strands.
Would try again.
Review by Sarah
My son usually only likes to write fictional stories. But I was able to get him to set down and do this rather quickly. Easy to use and not too awfully time consuming.
Confusing
Review by LC
This writing program made no sense to me or my daughter. Language arts was my best subject in school as well as my daughter’s, and this book was a total fail. We could not understand the approach and it was a struggle to get through it each day. We tossed it in the trash.
Good for a reluctant writer
Review by Shauna
Writing is not my child's favorite subject. However, this curriculum breaks writing into manageable pieces so that it is not overwhelming.
Made a great choice
Review by Ashley
This is a great curriculum, besides some days it was a bit . The questions in the text pertain to Faith, it allows you to pick your choice of reading books, then goes from there. Throughout your text your child gets to pick a week's work then evaluate it, to improve their writing. Best thing about it is that my daughter hated writing but with this she does enjoy it now and it's not overwhelming her.
Love that it is Bible-Based! Practical & Simple.
Review by Danielle
My son does not enjoy writing at all. I would have to say Language Arts is probably his least favorite subject. However, Writing Strands is Bible-based and breaks things down into smaller, simpler assignments and that was very helpful for him. The assignments are written in a way that feels simple and practical to do each day, not overwhelming. This was a great fit for him for 7th grade. Looking forward to Writing Strands: Intermediate 2.
Worked for us
Review by Jessica
This curriculum worked just fine for us. The assignments some days were a tad short for my liking, but some days that was a blessing too. I appreciated how questions pertaining to faith were intertwined in the lessons and also studying scripture.
Pretty good
Review by Esther
My daughter used this for 7th grade writing. It wasn’t bad. She tolerated writing and the book itself is very easy to use. You get to pick your own reading materials which can be nice, but I actually would prefer someone to tell us what books to read. We did like the scripture component and focusing on smaller writing assignments, but writing them with excellence. There was a focus on self assessment—having the child examine their work from the week to pick their best sentence and also what they could have improved upon. My daughter struggled with that part. I often let her skip it because she just couldn’t come up with what was best and worst.
Great writing curriculum!
Review by Karen
I really love the writing aspect of Writing Strands, but I did not like the one week of writing, one week of reading set up. The writing instruction was perfect for my reluctant writers and they really progressed well in that with Writing Strands. We ended up skipping the reading weeks.
